GW Beauty offered a hard-to-find but very popular sunblock at a good price, so I ordered it. To save on the inflated shipping cost I browsed the site and chose a few additional items from the clearance dept. Several days later I received an email indicating that my order had shipped - but without the sunblock! They charged me the original shipping amount $6.50, despite that my order was now under $20.
I never received any communication indicating that they could not complete my order, or an offer to choose something else. No offer to ship the sunblock at a later date or an offer to hold the order until they had the sunblock in stock. Just the email I mentioned above.
I emailed them to express my dissatisfaction at how this had proceeded, and they wrote back saying that they could issue a return authorization.
The return authorization was basically an email with their internal codes, and a link to their absurd return policy. Basically I would have to ship it back to them at my cost, and then they would refund my money MINUS a 12% restocking fee!
I will take responsibility for not having looked at the return policy before I placed my order, but I have never heard of any company operating this way. Why would they have not informed me at the time I placed my order that they did not have available the items listed for sale on their website? I wonder if they ever had it available or if they just list it to draw traffic to their site?
Needless to say I'm not going to be sending back my order to receive less than a $5 refund (after I subtract my return shipping costs), but I would like to help other unsuspecting shoppers to know that this has been my experience.
Buyer beware!
