There are so many great things about living in a city but the one bad thing is that garden supply stores are poorly stocked and very expensive. That's where this lovely company based in Vermont comes in... They sell all sorts of tools and supplies for the home gardener. I wish they sold plants and seeds but they do have a wonderful germinating mix.
I've been a devoted customer for over two years now. Their website is well designed and corresponds with their catalog. If you have a catalog and don't feel like browsing you can just enter the item number under their "Catalog Quickshop" tab. But if you don't have a catalog handy, you can browse their site with minimum confusion. Their stock is divided into sensible categories like "Seedstarting" and "Pest Control" which are divided into further subcategories.
One of the lovely things about just browsing is all the additional information they have online. If you look under Pest Control they also have links to articles on things like "7 Steps to Mosquito-Free Living" and "Solutions for Japanese Beetle Control". These articles are extremely informative and helpful and within the context of the articles give links to suitable items like their Incense Coil which I've ordered but have yet to try.
You can also search for items through keywords which is fairly accurate. I put in a search for "bamboo" because I'm trying to figure out how to make a teepee stake for my sweet peas. I found their "Bamboo Teepee Kit"! How convenient!
After you've placed your order online (which you can also do through their 800 number) you get an email with a summary of your order. After they ship you receive another email with your shipping details at which point can determine your "Order Status" online.
I've bought everything from grow lights to dirt. I've called their customer service several times for various reasons and they are always sweet and very helpful. Last year, the grow lights I ordered had a part that was manufactured incorrectly. Next thing I know, UPS is at my door (well, the concierge's desk) with a brand new part... no charge for shipping or the part and with a lovely note from the gentleman who helped me. What more could a girl from the city ask for?
