Bad products, bad fulfillment, OK customer service

My first experience with Gardener's Supply has not been pleasing. Although delivered promptly, my simple order was filled incorrectly -- I was sent an item I did not order. The customer service person on the telephone was courteous and helpful but I had to argue a bit to get them to send the correct item without waiting for me to first return the item I had received.
I am disappointed with the quality of the products themselves. I ordered their flagship self-watering planter and found it to be cheaply constructed despite its high price tag. After following the assembly instructions precisely, filling the planter with soil and water, and transplanting my plants, I returned two days later to find the soil in the planter bubbling with water and all of my plants dead or dying. Apparently the water level float indicator on my planter is defective, as even with the planter filled with far too much water it still shows the level of water as being acceptable. The float indicator appeared to be working at the time I assembled the planter.
My impression of Gardener's Supply is that of an overpriced store with glistening advertising copy and no product quality to back it up. I will certainly think twice about shopping with them again.
