Well, to start things off, I must explain to you that I am a man of short stature. As a short man, I sometimes have trouble finding pants that fit me with regard to the proper length (at least my waist size is normal, thank God!). One day I noticed that in a Gap store that I visited they had a size chart. This chart said that there were additional sizes for pants and jeans on the Gap.com web site. So, one day when I had nothing else to do, I decided to actually order something from Gap.com
The web site itself is very professionally done, and it is easy to navigate. There is always a portion of the web page located above that makes it easy to navigate into different sections (men's, women's, accessories, etc...). After one has chosen the section he or she wants to go to, a new "clickable" portion of the page appears on the left side, allowing one to see different items within the section. This makes it very easy to hop around between sections and individual items. When an item is selected, you can choose to zoom in on it, which makes all the little details more visible.
When you have made the decision to buy a particular item, you may then choose what color you want (if the item comes in more than one color), and the size. For pants, the lengths seem to range from 28-36, and the waist size goes from 28 on up. Shirts seem to range in size from XS to XXL. Sometimes the web site will have items marked for clearance, in which case an item's original price will be crossed out and have a price in red below that. The clearance items are also visible from the navigable portions of the web page, in which case the prices will be in red also.
Two different shipping options are available. There is overnight express delivery, and the normal delivery. The normal delivery costs about $6. I ordered a single pair of pants on two different occasions, and they both arrived at my house about 3-4 days after I placed the order with the normal delivery option (which isn't too bad, considering they ship from Ohio). The items themselves come in a plastic bag along with a coupon for future purchases (that is, if one wants a discount when spending $75 or more!), and a Gap credit card application form. Everything was bundled together in a regular mailing envelope used at post offices, and both times they were mailed through regular mail and were able to be fit into my mailbox. Overall, I was happy with the shipping arrangements and arrival time.
Returning an item is very easy. One can choose to mail the items back to Ohio with the same mailing envelope. There are pre-printed return labels that come along with the receipt if one chooses this route. One can also return the item to a Gap store. I had to return one of the pants I ordered, and I chose to do this through one of the Gap stores in the local mall. I was able to return the pants with no trouble at all (only they don't refund the shipping charges). If you get the wrong item, or if it comes in the wrong size or color, they refund the total charge, including the shipping. The customer service is excellent.
Well, there you have it. I think shopping at Gap.com was a pleasant experience for me. Be sure to check out OldNavy.com and BananaRepublic.com also (two clothing companies that are related to the Gap's parent company).
