Don’t believe all the negative reviews. Despite a few minor quirks if you know what to expect and are patient you will be rewarded with a quality product at an unbeatable price.
Ok here is my experience both good and not so good. I ordered a Mac Pro with two 3.0Ghz Xeon Processors, 1 gig of Ram, 250gig HD and an ATI 1900XT video card. The cost was to be $1,389.10 after $50 dollar rebate.
(Upgrades) Gainsaver, like Apple charges ridiculous prices for upgrades for example and additional 250GB Hard Drive is $129. I could buy a 500GB HD from someone like Newegg for $59. The same is true for RAM, 2gigs for $199 from Gainsaver, while I bought 4gigs from OWC for $85. So, I did not want any extras as intended to buy them from other venders for a fraction of the cost.
The day after my order was place I received a call from the sales rep to inform me that the configuration that I ordered was not in stock. However, they had one with the 250gb hard drive upgrade that they could send me for the price of the upgrade. Apparently they do not have the capability to just take the extra hard drive out. Our at least that is not something they do. So despite that fact that you can custom configure your unit on their website, you really only get that they have in stock. Ok, I was not very happy with that but even at a price of $1600 (shipping was just over $50) I was happy with the price so I went ahead and continued the order.
The item shipped the following day and arrived at my front door about 5 days later.
Packing - The computer was very well packed, no issues at all with damage. The Keyboard and Mouse were the cheap (relatively) Macally brand. However, after using them for a while they are perfectly good accessories. I would rather have this new keyboard than a used Apple Keyboard.
Upon opening the package I found the computer to be about what I expected. There are a few scratches on the sides but it is a solid build with everything I ordered except…. It had a Geforce 7300GT graphics card and not the ATI card that I ordered. Since I intend to do some light gaming in windows with this machine the graphics card was kind of important.
Customer Service - I called the sales person and told them of my problem, they said they would handle it. I also went to the website and filed out a service request. The next day they shipped me a new video card, which arrived yesterday.
The Product – As I mentioned it has a few cosmetic scratches on both sides but it is a Mac Pro very well built and everything works, as it should. I installed Windows XP (bootcamp) and it is a very fast windows box as well. I added 4gigs or RAM, and a bigger hard drive I had lying around the house. So for just over $1600 I got a machine that would probably cost me $2000 if I bought it through some other vendor.
The Rebate – Is actually, a $50 dollar store credit. Since there is nothing else I need from them, I will just pass on that. Just know that you are not going to get $50 dollars but it is a credit on something else you have to buy from them.
Overall, I am very pleased with the experience. It started out shaky with the call to tell me that they did not have my configuration in stock. Then got shakier when the unit arrived with the wrong video card. But, the customer service was exceptional and they made it right with no hassles. Also, I am very pleased with the machine itself. Everything works very well, it is clean inside and it was packaged very well and shipped quickly. They handled the video card issue about as well as anyone could expect. Also, you will not find better pricing on Apple computers anywhere on the net so I would give these guys a positive recommendation. Just go into it knowing that you are at the mercy of what they have in stock.
