I'm currently in the process of purchasing a GARMIN NUVI 760 from FOTO-TRONIX. Like many I was attracted by the best price on the Internet for the above item....the GARMIN 760.
BTW....this questionable merchant, as I understand it, is based/headquartered out of Wilmington, Delaware. So, consumer complaints AGAINST FOTO-TRONIX should be addressed to:
The Delaware Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection. You can file a complaint via the Internet using their Consumer Complaint Form. It is in Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Format and can be saved to your computer. You can then:
1. Fax it to 302-577-6499
2. Email it as an attachment to the Consumer Protection Division
3. Mail it to: Delaware Department of Justice, Consumer Protection Division, Carvel State Office Bldg., 820 N. French St., Wilmington, DE 19801
So there....you have the above information to go after this poorly operated and questionable company. Don't just complain....file your complaint with the above Consumer Protection Office. Additionally....if your purchased product was advertised as NEW and they shipped a rebuilt one....that is FRAUD and is a violation of Delaware state law. You have a legitimate complaint with the Delaware Attorney General's office.
Now, the rest of the story....
After immediately debiting my credit card for the purchase price of the Garmin (debit on 29 AUG 08) FOTO-TRONIX sat on my order for five (5) days ! Although it may not be law, it certainly is bad business practice to take a consumer's money and NOT provide the product. My experience with all reputable companies I've Internet ordered from is that your card is not charged/debited until the product is SHIPPED ! FOTO-TRONIX only shipped via UPS yesterday at 7 pm. So, they took my money and sat on the shipment of the paid for item for 5 days !
During the above waiting period I e-mailed them SIX (6) times asking them for an explanation on their tardy/intentional delay in shipping my paid for merchandise. Only after they shipped it did they respond with a short "Greetings....your order is shipped." message. No explanation of delay no nothing. Finally I had a tracking number that indicated the merchandise was shipped out of Brooklyn, New York. Now I can impatiently await the delivery of the item and hope it isn't a rebuilt unit. If it's rebuilt I'll be jumping through the hoops to get the item returned. I'll also be filing a complaint with the Delaware Attorney General's office.
So, a lesson learned for me and for readers of this review:
IF THE INTERNET MERCHANT DOESN'T PROVIDE A CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBER AND AN ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE....DON'T ORDER FROM THEM ! It's that simple. Hopefully I'll take my own advice in the future.
