November 2007: I purchased a new 73” HD DLP Television from Electronics-Expo in-store (Raritan, New Jersey). Mitsubishi model # WD73732. I brought the set home same day.

After five days in service the television began to show signs of malfunction consistent with a failed light engine (image ghosting, halos, loss of clarity and discoloration throughout the entire picture). At first, this issue occurred only occasionally and at random intervals. However, over the course of the following five days, it worsened to the point where the television picture was no longer viewable.

I called the point of purchase location and explained the issue. I told the store representative that based on the amount of time I owned the television that I would like it replaced. I was informed that the TV would have to be “looked at” and/or “repaired” by a service technician and that a return for exchange would not be accepted.

I later phoned the point of purchase location again and spoke directly with the location’s manager. Once again I inquired regarding replacement. I was informed that a replacement was not possible and the television would have to be examined by a technician and then a determination made as to if the TV can be repaired or replaced by the manufacturer.

I was sold a defective product; repair is not acceptable for a television that was in service less than a week before failing. Since I have not been able to receive satisfaction in this matter, I have filed formal consumer complaints against Electronics-Expo and their practices regarding faulty equipment sales.
