It was time for me to get more contact lenses. I called my Optometrist to order a box but was told that since my last visit was just over a year ago Id have to make an appointment before they would order them for me. Since I am going to an Ophthalmologist in December and my prescription is dated 11/05 I decided to order online. A long time ago I used 1800 Contacts so I went to that website first.
I couldnt order just one box from them. It seemed that I had to order 4 boxes and I just wanted one. I did a search and came up with Discount Contact Lenses. (www.discountcontactlenses.com/ )
The site and ordering:
This was perhaps one of the easiest transactions I have had.
I found a list on the first page of lens types, lens manufacturers, accessories and the websites services such as customer support. I clicked on the link that took me to my contact lenses
Ocular Sciences Biomedics 55% Disposable Contact Lenses. It loaded immediately with no problems. I could buy 6 lenses which is one box for $39.95. This was the same price that 1800 Contacts offered.
Once I clicked on my contact lenses I was brought to an easy to fill out form that let the site know my prescription. There is a link to prescription help which I used. I had my prescription in front of me but I wasnt sure of what the numbers meant. I found that link very helpful and I was able to quickly fill out the form.
I was told that if I didnt have my prescription they would call my eye doctor or if I wanted I could just fax the prescription to Discount Contact Lenses and they would fill it out themselves. I chose to fill it out but of course had to send the prescription to the company. They will not, nor should they, take an order without a valid prescription.
After I gave them my name, address and charge card information (All major credit cards are accepted.) I got my first e-mail confirmation immediately (October 18) that told me they were waiting for my prescription and they are holding my order until it is received.
Six days later on October 24 I was told via e-mail that my order was complete and would be processed shortly. I was told I should receive my lenses within 7 to 10 days.
On November 1 I was told that my order was shipped on that day. I was going to receive a survey in the mail asking for my opinion of their services and provide me with a coupon for a discount on my next order. This did happen.
I received my lenses 16 days from my order. This was 12 days from the time they told me I would receive the lenses in 7 to 10 days which in my opinion isn't that far off.
Shipping:
I received my contacts in a nice, secure box on 11/9. The shipping cost me $5.95. The price of shipping can easily be found on the site so there will be no surprises which I like a lot. This is regular shipping which comes in 7-10 business days.
I could choose Air Expedited shipping for $11.95 (3-5 business days)
My final thoughts:
I was not in a hurry for my contacts because I still had one lens left and I dont wear it every day. I would recommend that you fax the prescription if you want to get your lenses faster than I did. The shipping time was almost correct. I received my lenses two business days later than I should have. The process took a bit longer than some might like because of my sending the prescription.
I am quite satisfied with my experience at Discount Contacts and would use the website again without hesitation. I like the fact they kept in contact with me via e-mail.
Their prices do not seem any less than other sites so their name may be a bit incorrect. The lenses cost me about $5.00 more than if I had gone through my Optometrist. In spite of that I had no problem paying the price or the $5.95 shipping charge since I wasnt able to get them through my doctor without a visit.
(I went to the sight today and right now shipping is free!)
I hope this has helped you but please feel free to leave me a comment or question.
