DI, aka Tanzanite Int'l are crooks, as are the cruise lines, & credit card companies..

My experience was exactly the same as this person's. We went on a Norwegian Cruise and they talked up Diamonds International, aka Tanzanite International. We purchased a tanzanite and 14K white gold ring in Cozumel Mexico. The appraisal they wrote said it was worth $1300. We talked them down from $1600. But, when we returned home and had a certified GIA appraisal done it was worth $575. The stone is defective and does not meet the color or clarity that is stated. But, in the fine print it says that the color and clarity can be 2 sizes off. That makes ONE HELL of a big difference in price!!! We were NOT notified that the stone was defective and I'm not entirely sure that they did NOT replace the stone with a worse quality stone when they sized the ring.

Of course, you are only in each country for a number of hours. So, they know you are in a hurry to return to your cruise ship.

They are crooks. They did not hold up their end of the bargain and I protested the charge on my Master Card. But, while they initially found FOR me now they have reversed their decision based on an email DI says they sent to me that I "refused" to sign. This was a lie. They sent it to the wrong email address even though they'd been sending me stuff to the right email address. I found out about it when the decision was "reversed" and Master Card said the decision was final. THAT WAS NOT FAIR!!!

I'm not sure what I expected mediation to be but this was NOT it. Capital One (my Master Card company) did NOT communicate with me at all until it was too late. I was not given the opportunity to counter whatever they said and the fact remains that my stone is defective, I was not informed of it, and when the gemologist gave the ring a value he said he could not find a stamp on the white gold to indicate that it was gold either. But, assuming that it was 14K gold that the $1300 ring was worth $575, less than half of what I paid for it.

Norwegian Cruise Lines did NOT help us even though they said in their shopping speeches that they would refund the difference if you got back to the states and had it appraised and found it to be worth less than you paid. They go back to a statement about "buyer's remorse" and say that everything is JUST "buyer's remorse".

I have cried many tears over this purchase. This was my "dream vacation" and I likely will never take another cruise. I was NOT even looking for a ring but the hype aboard the ship day after day for an 11 day cruise was unbelieveable and like a dumb*ss I fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

I was asked which ship I was from and they swiped my badge in the store to show which ship I was on. I'm sure that the cruise lines get some kind of kick back from this crap.

So, now I'm sitting here wondering what my recourse is. I have an excellent credit rating but I don't wanna pay for this ring and I feel Master Card, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Diamonds International are all in this together. It is a scam and I'm upset about it.

If anyone would like to file a lawsuit, I'm in. I've never sued anybody in my entire life. But, I hate it that I've been ripped off.

A friend of mine bought a ring in Belize from Diamonds International and both of her tanzanite stones were chipped. It did not leave me with a good feeling. Her ring was valued at $1375. Her appraisal, even with the chipped stones was $1200. So, a rip off, and not the bargain we were led to believe. But, not as bad as what happened to me.

I think the only people that are "pleased" with their selections from these crooks are the people who never take their rings in for an appraisal and just go merrily along believing they got a good deal. There was darn sure no bargain there and according to the shopping expert the jewelry in the Caribbean was worth at least 40% more in the states.

: ( Diamonds International, aka Tanzanite International, are crooks that rip off their customers. Satisfaction is job zero with them. Cruise lines are in on the scam and credit card companies don't wanna lose all of those fees they get when tourists fall for the "great buy" crap.
