I have purchased countless DVDs from DVD Empire, and with good reason: Their selection is outstanding, and so is their service.

The Selection: While it may have started out as a strictly DVD business, they've not only split their DVD selection into categories of DVD-Video and DVD-Audio, but they've also branched out into the realm of Games (PC, XBox, Playstation, etc.), Audio CDs, DVHS, and even books.

The Shopping Experience: The first thing you'll notice as you take your first steps through the virtual doors of the Empire is the clean layout, with plenty of links to take you where you want to go.

First off, in the center of the page, you're shown all the latest releases, pre-releases, bargain prices, and specials currently available.

Along the left column, you'll see all of the categories available. Whether you're looking for classic B&W films, the latest Hollywood blockbuster, or even special interest items (such as anime/manga or fitness and new age videos), you'll likely find whatever it is you're searching for.

Along the top of the screen, you can search first by video format, then as before, search by category.

The Prices: Generally very competitive with retail prices, and for some older movies, even much cheaper in some instances. These prices, combined with no taxes and free USPS shipping on 4 or more items is a great way to save money when purchasing your next round of DVDs.

The Service: Piling up the DVDs in your virtual cart and dumping them at the checkout counter is a snap. After your purchase is made, they advise you to print the total as a receipt, but they also send you an email with the same information, so printing is unnecessary.

They have several different shipping methods, but I've always been very satisfied with their straightforward USPS Priority Mail service. The orders typically arrive in 2-3 days (4-5 on a few occasions), and I've never had any trouble with any DVD I've ordered from them. The service is prompt and worry-free.

A warning: Once you start shopping here, you may never go back to purchasing DVDs retail ever again ;)
