My 5-year-old computer was S-L-O-W. Very S--L--O--W. It had 256 RAM, so it was time to learn about computer memory. I went to the Dell site, found something that I thought would work, then called their customer service line to verify the part. After 45 minutes of their trying to figure out whether the part number they see was the same as mine, I excused myself off the phone.
You see, on the Dell advice pages, somebody wrote about Crucial.
Crucial has this great little wizard where you type in information about your machine, and they tell you the part you need. Unfortunately, I didn't know how many MHZ FSB I
have, or what that even is.
So, I emailed their customer service department (this was a Friday). Then I found this downloadable program right there on their site. It was able to tell me exactly what I needed. The part on the Crucial site was around $90. The part on the Dell site $135!
Shipping was free and arrived within a couple of days. I installed my memory, following the instructions in my manual and my computer zips right along.
Customer service emailed me the next Wednesday (3 business days and slower than their shipping department). Best of all, I didn't need them because their site had already given me all the info I needed. That's what I call Great Customer Service!!
