Best Return Policy Ever
by pjayaz, November 1, 2005

CompUSA may not have the best prices all the time; but their return policy is top notch. I bought a $900 monitor from them, and after approximately 10 days use; I decided I wanted a bigger monitor. I boxed it up and brought it into a store; exchanged it, and they didn't ask a single question why. Not only that; Apple lowered the pricing on their monitors 10 days after my second purchase, so I brought the receipt back to the store; and they gave me a refund for the difference. Couldn't be any happier with my purchase!

Terrible service. Took my brand new laptop in for a hard drive installation/upgrade, and they broke the motherboard!!! It then took them a week to fix (they had to send it to *real* technicians at Apple to get it fixed). The actually shipment and repair only took 2 days (DHL and Apple were extremely professional), but CompUSA took 5 days just to ship it out of their store! It was a terrible inconvenience to me. But when they finally got it back, they refused to even make a minimal demonstration of good faith by refunding my original upgrade fee. Yes, that's right - they broke my laptop, put it out of commission for a week, and still charged me full price for the HD installation!!!
My friend also took his laptop in for a similar installation a week later (different CompUSA). While installing the hard drive, they bent his laptop's internal frame, scratched the case, and damaged a speaker connection. Bottom line: avoid CompUSA like the plague! |

Poor Customer Service, Poor Products , Sorry all around

I ordered a pink ipod mini online. I received a blue ipod mini. The receipt received in the shipping box shows pink ipod. When customer service was called , they wanted me to ship the blue one back before they would ship the proper one. As this was a bday present, i was reluctant to ship it back. I asked about having the store swap the item, and they stated that the store "may or may not take it back". I called the store and they stated that they do not normally take back items ordered online. Also, I received a Sakar 3in1 kit with rebate. This item broke after two days of use. A Sorry experience all around.

Excellent buys and delivered ontime.

I recently bought numerous items via their auction portal. It was fun and i purchased 2 Items via direct and thru 3 of their 3rd party vendors.
I recieved my "refirbushed" computer and "used" speakers (delivered on time). THEY WERE BOTH STILL FACTORY SEALED!! They were not marked as used/refirbushed, and were wrapped up without a fingerprint or scratch on them. The only down side would be the 21Day Dead On Arival Warranty. However, I promptly went to the computer mfg's web-site and registered the item. They let me activate the full warranty, no mention of the item being listed as refirbushed. Now I WILL NOT say that this is normal or that anyone SHOULD expect new merchandise when buying product that is listed otherwise. I more than likely just got lucky, but oh the luck :+) The Items purchased through the 3rd parties were all delivered as promised, within a reasonable time, in the advertised condition. There was one problem with the credit card policy with one vendor, but this was an oversite on my part, the issue was resolved after a processing delay. |

DON'T BUY REPLACEMENT WARRANTY - $250 LIE. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE UNLESS YOU HAVE SENT THE COMPUTER BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR REPAIR MORE THAN THREE TIMES IN A SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN DEALING WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY, THEIR REPLACEMENT PLAN IS USELESS.

I will never purchase anything from this bunch of rip-off artists that call themselves a store.
I made a purchase online and then realized I could not use the product. I immediately used the online cancellation system to cancel the order. I also attempted to call them on their 800 number. I was put on hold for over 30 minutes, then they hung up on me. I called back, on hold for 20 minutes and got some rep that told me they couldn't cancel the order as it had already been shipped. I said that was impossible and demanded to speak to a supervisor. After another 20 minute wait someone else got on the phone and told me that while the order hadn't been shipped, and wouldn't be shipped until the next day, they still couldn't cancel the order and refund my money. I was livid. The order arrived 2 days later, I refused delivery (as per their instructions) and it was returned by FedEx. I've now been trying to contact their customer service department for a week. I keep getting hung up on. NEVER DEAL WITH THESE THIEVES!!!! Dave |

Complete lack of customer service
by centerfieldny, February 1, 2005

Absolutely no response from customer service whatsoever. Their national ad said 50% off all PNY memory but didn't have prices for the memory. Their web site showed the normal price as $85 with a $30 rebate, for a net price of $55. 50% of $85, however, would be $42.50. To check the price, I called the local store for 2 days at various times and got nothing but "please leave a message if you need pricing or availability information." I finally left a message. I also sent a facsimile to the local store with my inquiry. I sent an email to their sales department and an email to their customer service department about my inquiry. As of 2 days later, still no response whatsoever. Found the same item at Staples.com with a $15 instant coupon and a $30 online rebate, saving me $10 overall with free delivery.

I placed an order for an item which was supposed to ship in 3-4 weeks and 2 weeks later out of the blue I got an e-mail saying that the order was canceled. Apparently CompUSA tried to charge my credit card twice and hence was declined. My earlier orders had gone through fine, so it was not an issue with the credit card. On calling the customer service they were not ready to take another credit card number and process the order. It almost appears that they did not want to honor the sale price and hence canceled my order.

I made a reservation for an item online, it was easy enough. Opted for pick up, went to the store, and the customer service was horrible. They kept me waiting for some time, then I decided to go get the product from the selves and went to the checkout. The pickup service is absolutely ridiculous, good thing that I wasn't charged for the reservation. Its a joke

I ordered a Targus Notepac Computer Case online. After 11 days, the item showed as being in stock, but my item had not shipped. When I sent an email to customer service, they said they need my name, email address or order number to investigate. Well, 2 of those 3 criteria were in the email that they claimed they couldn't find my order with.
They finally found my order and said it had been back ordered but was now showing as being in the warehouse. We'll see if I ever receive it..... Update:I received the item 14 days after I ordered it, nice item, we'll see how their service is on processing rebates. Proactive updates on order status were non-existent, everything was reactive to my inquiries. |

I have purchased merchandise from Circuit City, Fry's, and Best Buy, but CompUSA is the only place I will shop at from here on out. I have made purchases online, and at many stores throughout Phoenix, Tucson, Chicago and San Diego and the customer service is always excellent, the few problems I have had with merchandise were taken care of quickly and efficiently. This company really seems to stand behind its products and is there to take care of the customer!

Helpful staff. I especially like how inexpensive the 2 year coverage program is. I have had dealings with Sony in the past and am completely fed up with sitting in the phone queue. With this protection, I can just go to the store, hand them my camera and they take care of EVERYTHING. My personal time is limited and i have better things to do than to sit on hold.

DON'T BUY AT COMP USA AND DON'T BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!
by jangelini, July 12, 2004

I purchased the Gold TAP warranty on a system from Comp USA. I was told it covered the cpu and monitor. When my monitor died I tried to claim it under the warranty. They said it wasn't covered because they don't "usually" cover monitors, although the manager could not explain to me why they assume a customer would not want to cover a monitor. They should at least give the customer the option. They said my policy was not in the right price tier for them to cover it. This was never explained to me when they gladly took my $220 warranty money. The sales person never asked if I wanted the monitor covered. The manager admitted to me that some sales people tell customers about this and some don't. She also admitted it was their fault but tough luck, they won't cover it and that I should have somehow known what their policy is. For an extra $30 I lost a $200 monitor. This company is so incompetent that they can't instruct their sales people on uniform sales information to customers. I WILL NEVER EVEN ENTER THE STORE AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME.

AVOID this STORE CHAIN
by jillybeanus, March 4, 2004

CompUSA is a probable AVOID it rating by me.
The prices look good for A Mexican company but shopping in the stores and online I think is a basic mismanagement of time and money. The manager (socalled) told me that a rebate was included in the box.. but then you read they have a (high) restocking fee for open boxes... but how can anyone get the rebate form inside the box ( as this manager of CompUSA ) says with out opening the box ? Then I find out after not finding it in the box that it did not have one.?? I called the firm, an American one about the alleged rebate and they said this firm (CompUSA) that a lot of people are told about a rebate but it does not exist.. is it CompUSA does not train there managers or staff? I say avoid this store chain online and/or off until they can fix the constant and consitent errors and falsehoods. |

Not only does compusa.com have a huge selection, they also deliver very fast. I used normal ground shipping and it got there the next day, which has happened to me more than once. It may be extremely slightly more expensive than other stores, but worth every penny. The last time i bought a Mp3 player i ordered it at compusa.com and it came broken, the shipping companies problem, not compusa's. However they still sent me a replacement and I have had complete satisfaction with their company and the great service.

We recently purchased a laptop, firewall router wireless access point and network adapter. I found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. I suppose it was helped by their desire for commissions, but nevertheless I appreciated it.
The only complaint I have is that their procedure for actually purchasing high-dollar items is something James Bond could only dream of. Overly complicated, it made me feel somewhat under suspicion of theft. |

If you know exactly what you want, CompUSA is fine.
by mmyersepinions, January 17, 2004

Staff is generally not knowledgeable at all about the product I purchased. The price was very high, but after prodding, the manager decided to match an ONLINE price. Very unheard of. These stores, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA will always match each other, but to match an internet online offer was very nice. I applaud CompUSA.
Watch the return policy here...in the past I preferred Circuit City because they have a much nicer return policy - they aren't as strict as to the reason of the return, etc. |

CompUSA had the product I wanted, but their customer service and return policies are horrible. Be aware that if you have a problem or are required to return your merchandise, you WILL have to PAY for the privilege of doing so. Don't Shop at CompUSA online or in person
by gebhardt2k, December 29, 2003
|

|
CompUSA has no idea what customer service means. First they told me ALL three of my e-mail addresses were bad. Then when the order was finally placed, they never e-mailed me to the one address they said was valid. Luckily I printed my receipt. I called to get a tracking number and the CS Rep told me they don't give out tracking numbers! I would have to call them, wait on hold for over 10 minutes again, to find out the status of my order!
It also took 9 months to get my refund for the Toshiba laptop I purchased. It took over 10 calls and 20 e-mails to CompUSA to get them to process the request. I will not be shopping at CompUSA anymore. BestBuy makes the shopping experience much easier. Even WalMart makes it easier! |

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! Especially the on-line section. Repeatedly messed up my order. It finally shipped 5 days after the rebate period and so the rebate processors (who are second only to Compusa in horrible customer service)refuse to honor it even after copies of all correspondence regarding this purchase was faxed to them. The order date is meaningless to the lock step rebate folks who rely soley on the date it is charged to the credit card (shipping date).
If you are only going to save a few hundred go somewhere else. It is not worth the hours and hours spent on hold with these people trying to get them to honor their sales promotions. |

They charge 15% open box restocking fee on everything if you need to return the merchandise, even if you return it in perfect condition. When I made the purchase, of course they didn't say anything about this, but when I return, they couldn't hide their smile and pointed out the fine print to me. It is like a "got'ya" game they like to play. I will never ever buy anything from compusa again. For $60 they lose my (and my friends') business for life.

DONT SHOP HERE
by timunger, November 23, 2003

DONT SHOP HERE. The return policy is completely unreasonable. When you purchase computer hardware and upgrades, incompatibility often occurs so LIBERAL return policies are a must. CompUSA CHARGES a 15% restocking fee on ALL RETURNS!!!! Also, does not accept any returns after 30 days. It doesnt matter if you have a receipt or not. I'm never going back, and neither are my friends. The return policy is the same for the local stores as well as the online store, except for online they charge you return postage as well!
