Horrible Experience - Stay away at all costs

We bought a Dell PowerVault 124T from them. We knew it was used, but since it did work, we were going to put it back under Dell warranty, or so we thought.
There was no service tag or express service code stickers on the back, but the web interface did have a service tag alpha-numeric id. The problem was that Dell had no record of that service tag, making it a ghost. Later, when it did break down, it was extremely difficult getting help because you could not open a up a case under the non-existent service tag, and Dell really had no obligation to help me, but to their credit, they have actually helped me twice with this autoloader out of warranty (we opened the case under one of our server's tag). I tried getting Coastal Micro to help, but they were very vague regarding where it came from, and ultimately could not, or would not, say were they got it from originally. Between this review and the one above from "it2u", who had a ghost PV 122T, I suspect there is something very fishy going on. I suggest that you not purchase from them for any reason. |

A great source for backup drives

I bought a backup tape drive from Coastal Micro last week and so far everything has been perfect. My order arrived quickly and the only issue that I had was that it didn't come with a user guide. I just downloaded it from Quantum's website so that wasn't really an issue for me.
The online checkout process was pretty painless. I didn't have any problems finding what I was looking for and I got an email with a copy of my invoice right away. I got a tracking number for my order as well. I would recommend Coastal Micro to anyone that is looking for a backup drive. |

Beware! Do not walk, run from this company!

Purchasing and receiving the Dell Powervault 122T robotic library system was relatively easy. It is a refurbished system. Dell had no record of this system as stated. Dell's serial number goes with an entirely different type tape drive. The support is horrendous. The most unprofessional and discourteous people I have ever done business with. They refused to send a replacement or loaner even though I have an extended warranty. I will never ever do business with them again.

Overall, a pretty good purchase with few issues. I did have an issue with the drive that they sent us, but they did an advanced exchange and I had a new unit in my hands the very next day.

A bunch of arrogant morons who are liars. Ordered a Seagate
STD2401LW-S which is on their site as NEW, and comes with Yosemite server software. Arrived in a plain box, obviously USED, with scuffs etc. Nothing else in the box. Upon calling I was told I would get the software - they sent BackUp Exec for Windows Server, NOT Yosemite. Upon Calling a second time I was told to send the drive back. We'll see how they handle refunds. back. Nice attitude. I would guess that the glowing ratings for this company on this site are Coastal Micro people. |

I ordered a tape drive from these guys last week and so far my experience has been pretty good. I ordered a rackmount LTO drive and I needed some help getting it installed. The tech support that they provided was great and my drive has been providing flawless backups.

I purchased a DAT72 drive from Coastal Micro and I have had no issues with the product or the customer service. The product was brand new with everything needed to get it up and running. The tape drive functions just as it should. I run differential backups with it every night and one full backup once per week. The website is easy to navigate and my order was shipped out the same day. If you are looking to get a tape drive but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for then Coastal Micro has what you need. A great shopping experience and I will be back. Thanks guys!

I ordered an HP StorageWorks SDLT 160/320 Tape Drive from this vendor. The drive was obviously used (although there is not mention on their website), there were scratches on all sides, and no documentation, cables or other items that would come with a new drive.

I ordered a set of SDLT tapes which were advertised as new and "factory sealed". While some of the tapes were in fact new, others had obviously been opened (broken seal and formatted).

Deceptive retailer - Not Recommended

I ordered a tape backup unit online from Coastal Micro. The website clearly stated that the item was "New Retail". When I received the item it was used. It was not in factory packaging and had none of the factory literature or "Retail" items in the box. The unit was also scratched and had fingerprints on it. I emailed Coastal Micro and they gave me some story that their units are tested and have a 1 year Coastal Micro warranty. Who cares, I paid for a new unit and got a used one. They said I could RMA the unit for a replacement. I asked if the replacement unit would be new or used and never received a response. I also purchased a SCSI card with the device that was also used and in bad shape. They said I could return the items for a refund. Unfortunately the unit is already installed in a clients office and server downtime is at a premium. I could have paid less for "Used" items from a different retailer. I cannot recommend this retailer, they are deceiving consumers.

I ordered a DDS-4 drive from these guys last week as well as a SCSI controller, tapes, cables, etc. The items were delivered the very next day and everything was perfect. You can't beat the price or the level of service. If you need a backup solution this is the place to go.

I had never heard of Coastal Micro Supply before, but saw that they had an excellent price on a tape backup system that I needed. Their price was $858.00 less than that of my usual technology supplier. My regular technology supplier could not even compete on price.
Their sales department was extremely helpful and actually helped me to save a little more money during my purchase. Overall, an outstanding experience and I would purchase from them again. |

We needed a tape drive to replace our old one, but were not ready to buy the rack-mount tape library until all of the servers have been migrated. So as an interim solution we settled on a TSL-A300 Autoloader. The online product catalog showed as new,
