Thieves. That's how I would describe how I felt about Circuit City after attempting to order a TV online.
I have never felt compelled to write an online review cautioning against using a particular retailer, but my experience with circuitcity.com was not an experience that I would wish on my worst enemy.
On 11/23/07, I placed an order for a $1200 TV with free delivery online. I made at least 5 attempts to schedule delivery over the phone. Each time I was disconnected after being put on hold. After finally spending 30 minutes scheduling a delivery, I was cut off after being given a delivery day and instructions for delivery. I called again on 11/26.07, when I hadn't heard from the delivery team and found out that the television was out of stock. I asked for a refund on my debit card and was told it would be 3-5 days (which seemed like a ridiculous amount of time to wait for $1200 to be returned on a TV that was never delivered). On 12/5/07, the money still had not been returned. I sent a nasty email to customer service. On 12/6/07, I called CS again, spent 43 minutes on the phone with an inept CS rep who kept verifying my shipping address, billing address etc. It made no sense, considering the refund was to go right back on the card with which I purchased the TV. She promised a return in 3-5 days. On the 6th day, I had to file a dispute at my bank. Mysteriously, I received an email back from CS the next day with promises to refund my money. Finally, on 12/17/07, the money turned up back in my account. I ended up purchasing from Sears, which did not charge my debit card until I actually signed for the delivery of the TV.
