Full review
I've had the chance to order from Christianbook.com several times, and I believe that they're well worth looking into. They have quite a lot of variety in what they're selling, the site is easy to use, and the orders arrive in a decent amount of time and well-packaged. I'll be ordering from them again next time I get the chance.
What They Have
Christianbook.com has a lot. I could go through their catalog and find a lot of things that I'd like. If you're a Christian, there's probably something here for you.
Some of what they carry include:
- Bibles
- Christian Fiction
- Christian Biographies
- Christian Classics
- Bible Commentaries
- Devotionals
- Curriculum
- Music (CDs and Hymnals)
- DVDs and Videos
- Kid's Books, Bibles, and Videos
- Software
- Books for teens
Their catalog is 64 pages long, but it doesn't include everything that they have on their web site. They carry 42,623 items in their homeschool section, for example. So if you want to find Christian materials, this is certainly a good place to look.
You can even have your Bibles that you buy here imprinted with your name or initials for an additional $5.
Prices
Their prices better than what you'll find in many retail stores. The new Veggie Tales Movie,
Tomato Sawyer and & Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue, currently retails for $9.99. I found a Bible that our church sells for $30 at Christianbook.com for $22.99. For every item, they list the retail price, and next to it list their price, which is always lower. The retail prices seem to be what I'd expect to pay at the local Christian bookstore down the street.
Christianbook.com offers bulk discounts on some items. If you have to buy for your church or study group, that might be a good deal. There are also some Bible study items that will give you a quantity discount if you buy several different books out of the series at once.
They also have sales where you can save even more.
Shipping
Christianbook.com offers Standard Shipping, UPS Ground, Priority Mail, and UPS 2nd Day Air Shipping. They also ship to Canada and overseas. The charges for standard shipping are $3.99 for standard shipping for an order of up to $20, $5.99 for an order from $20-$50, 10% of an order from $50-$100, and 8% of an order over $100.
On some curriculum items, you can find free shipping, and you might find a free shipping coupon code. When I recently ordered a curriculum kit, they sent me a coupon code for free shipping on an order over $35. There are other coupon codes out there, so keep your eyes out or do a search for them before you make your order.
Standard shipping doesn't always include tracking, but on my last order it was included. My orders have always arrived well packaged. It takes about 9 or so days for my orders from Christianbook.com to arrive.
Web Site
Their Web site is well-designed, and it is easy to find what I want, whether it's a Bible or curriculum. You can browse for various items, or you can use the search box if you know exactly what you want.
Not only can you quickly search or browse for what you would like to find, you can quickly reach your shopping cart, account information, wish list, or the help menu through small tabs located at the top of every page.
There are pictures of almost every item next to the description of what you're ordering, making it easy to find out whether what is up for sale is exactly what you are looking for.
Final Thoughts
Christianbook.com is one of my favorite places to look for Christian books and DVDs. They have a great variety and great prices. I don't really care much for paying shipping, but their discounts (and especially if you have a coupon code or order something that ships free) can make up for it. I would recommend this site to all my Christian friends.
