No help at all
by jrgarland, December 31, 2008

I found CarsDirect.com to be of no help at all. Initial contact was made very quickly and it seemed like they were very interested in helping with the purchasing process. However, after receiving an email stating that I was assigned a specialist, that specialist repeatedly failed to contact me. I had to repeatedly call him. Eventually he contacted me and according to him he found only one, (one!) vehicle in all of south Florida that would meet the criteria I gave him. Even after widely broadening my vehicle criteria he NEVER got back in touch with me.
I also received emails from both CarsDirect.com’s First Call Responder Team Manager and the Director of Sales Operations inquiring as to how my purchase was going. I sent polite responses stating that I was receiving very little assistance from CarsDirect.com to which I received NO response. I went to my local Credit Union that has a “AutoBranch” that provides the same service CarsDirect is supposed to. I had my new vehicle within 4 days at $700 over invoice. |

Excellent website for research, sometimes the price is higher than you can get yourself.

I like Carsdirect.com. This is great web site for researching vehicles. I've never bought one through Carddirect though. I used Carsdirect pricing for negotiation in a dealerships. Showing Carsdirect price to a salesperson kills their overpriced first offer. Internet is great tool, but the only problem is that you cannot test-drive a car using your computer. So you have to go to a dealer anyway. This is how I've gotten a car for my father.
Today I've closed the deal on Honda CR-V 2007 EX 4WD with a Fremont Automall Honda dealer. To my surprise I've gotten a price better than on Carsdirect. My wife wanted SUV for a long time. So I was researching using Carsdirect and Edmunds.com. Carsdirect's price was $24,282. Edmund's "What others are paying" was 24,518. I have requested a free dealer price quote from Edmunds"s Premier Dealer. Guess what? The dealer's reply was $23,388, which was just $200 over the invoice. So, I just scheduled an appointment and picked up the vehicle. The lesson here is always look around and request a price quote from different sources. |

Did not deliver!

After reading all of the reviews, I was excited to get stared on purchasing my new vehicle on carsdirect. I knew I could save money and didnt want to hastle with haggling. After making my request though, the vehicle specialist did stay in excellent contact with me, however never delivered on a vehicle. Basically there weren't any dealers who said they had the vehicle I requested.....even though I know for a fact several of them have them sitting right on their lot. The specialist said that a dealer was trying to do a "trade" for my vehicle, but couldn't find someone who could do so. Their supposed, vehicle in 24-48 hours never came through for me and 6 days after my request I have wasted time and energy that I could have devoted to finding the car that I needed last week.

Don't buy from Carsdirect before reading this!

NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT! All they have to do is locate the vehicle you want. Could be 1,000 miles away from home. It's a scam unless you are flex with color, options, etc. Ask them about it. You'll find out. They don't want to talk about this. I found out. Too many emails and phone calls to be told it's not ''probable'' they'll find my car. But they now have my money!
I was looking for a '06 Toyota Tacoma, Auto, long bed, crew cab, Desert Sand color. Price was right: base price plus 5% markup plus options. Ask them how probable it is to find a Toyota in your area. I have 12 dealerships in the Denver area. Should be easy if one were available. The answer you'll probably get is: we'll do our very best to find the vehicle you're looking for. Ask: well, what happens if you can't find a vehicle locally? What happens if you find the vehicle 1,000 miles from my home? Answer: Well, you'll have the option to pick it up and own it. Or, you can request another vehicle. Does that sound like a deal? Not to me. |

After reading several reviews and recs on online carbuying, I settled on carsdirect.com. They showed their no-hassle base price for my car right up front - not behind a pay-in screen or subscription service.
After submitting my interest, I heard back from a dedicated sales correspondent in 2 days. He gave me a choice of dealers to work with in my area - New York City - and double checked on my trade-in and options. The dealer I chose to work with gave me a price, separately, as I was shopping. Carsdirect.com was able to beat that price - without any hassle. My sales agent at Carsdirect.com handled much of the information for insurance and title documents with the dealer. All I had to do was show up and pay. |

Terrible customer service and higher prices than the dealer.

Hello! I was really interested in purchasing a new car without the usual negotiation and hassles, so I placed an order with CarsDirect. I was surprised at the price of the online quote, but since the car I was purchasing is in high demand, I thought I must still be getting the best deal.
A representative called me 2 days later. I had to walk through all of the options and packages with him, because he was unfamiliar about some items and just plain wrong about others. I never heard from him again, and calls and emails went unanswered, so I started shopping on my own. Good thing I did, because I ended up buying from a no-hassle, no-haggle car dealer with excellent customer service (Fitzmall) and ended up paying much less for the car. I did receive a final email from CarsDirect confirming that I cancelled my order. I never cancelled anything! It was a terrible experience. |

Don't do business in Texas

I read a very flattering review on Carsdirect.com on epinions so I decided to give it a try. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get to where I could start the process. Finally I gave up and called their help number. When I told the rep my problem she asked me my zip code. She than told me they did not do business in Texas. I asked if there was anything on the website that told you that. She just said "no". I said it would be nice if they let people know that up front so you wouldn't waste your time. The rep was very rude about it. I wasted a day in my car search waiting for Carsdirect to get back to me. Make sure they do business in your state before you waste your time. If the rep I talked to is any example don't expect much.

Slow. Attitudinal. Incompetent. Avoid at all costs.
by commsys, November 18, 2005

Nightmare. Salespeople are incompetent and know less than nothing re cars. Managers are willing to say anything but refuse to deliver what they promise. These folks NEVER return phone calls and yet are attitudinal if you, the customer, does not do just as they wish.
Care prices seem moderately good, but there's no good in a quote that they can NEVER quite deliver on. They claim "some people get their cars in under 24 hours and most within 48 hours." How nice that would be -- the reality is, however, that CarsDirect usually will not even return a phone call in that amount of time. Avoid these folks like the plague!! Bad news all around. |

A well executed Car Buying Experience!

What a pleasure. I've been fortunate enough to have purchased new vehicles using fleet pricing and/or have found loss leaders at dealers for the past 15 years.
When my mom wanted to buy a new Honda or Toyota, I turned to CarsDirect to get the best deal. Toyota had the features she sought and CarsDirect put us in touch with a local dealer who gave us the price we saw on CarsDirect. There was no pressure and no haggling - the price was even $56 less than another dealer's loss lead price. The transaction was concluded in a pleasant environment with no confrontation! What a great way to do business. I've turned to CarsDirect on numerous occasions to comparison shop the features and pricing for the models I was considering. This is the first time I followed through and used that service to purchase. I will continue to use the CarsDirect site to compare models, and will certainly contact them to be contacted by a dealer of my choice. |

The very best car buying experience ever!
by missunafraid, August 22, 2005

I researched my new car purchase online. I secured my financing and had a blank check (handy).
On CarsDirect.com you selected the make, model and all options. The below invoice price is shown which includes the destination fee. If you are ready to buy the car, you submit an order. Order submitted and 15 minutes later I got a call from my advisor. He verified my order and would call me back when he found the car. He called back 10 minutes later. It was at a dealer not close to my home but it was near my work so that was fine. To secure the order you must make a small deposit. (This is deducted from the bottom line price.) My advisor then set up an appt. to pick up the car at my convenience. He told me I would be there for about an hour and I was there for 57 minutes! No haggling/No pressure! Only a BELOW invoice price and a SMOOTH checkout and I was in my new Toyota! This was the easiest car buying experience I've ever had and I'll never buy another car anywhere else! |

My wife and I were excited to shop here at first because of the great prices for the new Nissan Quest. We submitted our information and waited for a reply. We had to call and then we were informed that we had to get a co signer because of our not so perfect credit. We did that and received a call from our rep telling us that we were 98% done with the deal and that the bank had approved they just had to get the bank to not require my brother to trade in his car. We then waited for a return call to see what was going on and had to call ourselves to find out. Then on Thursday the 21st of July she called and said that we were not approved and that was all they could do. I was a little concerned about this so we called to find out why and see what was the reason. When we called sat the 23rd of July we found out that the Thursday and Friday were her last days at cars direct and our order was canceled.

Caution!!! The Old Bait and Switch

After reading all of the reviews on Epinion (about 75% positive, 25% negative) I decided I had nothing to lose by giving them a shot. What a waste of my time. After a couple days of locating the exact car I wanted, my personal "volvo specialist" gave me all of the lease terms verbally. It was a great deal. Significantly better than any I had been able to get a few local dealers. I asked her to put it in writing just to make sure there was no funny business. She did, and we set up a delivery date for the following week. Then, the day before the car is to be delivered, I get a call saying they double counted the promotional lease rebate money available and it would be an extra $35 a month. I didn't argue. I just calmly told her to resend me an email with the new lease terms. Well she never did and I haven't heard from her since. Which is just as well because I don't want any more of my time wasted.

CarsDirect told me that they had located the Toyota 4Runner that I wanted on Friday, May 13. They took a credit application over the phone and approved me within minutes. They told me that a "hold" would be placed on the vehicle. I was to fax them a copy of a bank check in the amount of the down payment on Monday. I did so and was told the vehicle would be ready on Wednesday, May 18. Less than an hour later, I was informed that the dealer had already sold the vehicle.
What this demonstrates to me is that CarsDirect asking a car dealer to hold a vehicle is worth nothing. In retrospect, I should have known this, |

Carsdirect.com showed me how to get a great discount by buying out of state

I loved buying my 2005 Toyota Sienna through CarsDirect.com. They showed me how to get a hassle free discount in Seattle which was better than I could get on my own. However, they also pointed out that I could get a much bigger discount by buying from a dealer in Fremont, CA who had a much larger inventory. Driving down to Fremont to pick up the car was well worth the additional $2000 I saved. Buying out of state does have some complications which Carsdirect.com guided me through. I would definitely use them again and I recommend them to my friends.

Within two hours one of the carsdirect reps called me - they had a perfect match for the type of car (V6) and the color (blue) that I wanted and arranged the whole transaction in a couple of hours. I went and picked up the car at a dealer about 20 minutes from my house and I was done. No muss no fuss.
