Thumbs Down for CarsDirect
Full review
My experience with CarsDirect turns out to be a very interesting car-buying story. After putting in my request for a 2002 Ford Mustang GT, a Vehicle Specialist from CarsDirect contacted me and confirmed the vehicle I had chosen. Within a day, he went to work to locate the car I wanted. It wasn't long when he contacted me with good news...He had found my car. At this point, I thought to myself, "this is turning out to be the easiest, most hassle-free car buying experience ever...I will never buy from a dealership again". Man, was I wrong. A day went by with no new news, so I sent an email to my Vehicle Specialist requesting the status of the vehicle. He replied that he would "call me with the details". When I got home from work that day, there was a message from a Ford Dealer asking me to return their call. A Salesman at this dealer told me the car was being moved from another dealer to his location, which happened to be in the next state. I assumed that this meant they were moving the vehicle by flat-bed truck. So then I looked up the location of the dealership where I was going to have to pick-up the car. It was four hours away! Now I was getting upset. Being the practical consumer that am, I got on the phone to several local Ford Dealerships to do a little research. Within a half hour I had located the exact same vehicle I requested, and get this...The price was lower and it was twenty minutes away. I contactd my Vehicle Specialist to let him know and it was obvious that he was concerned. He told me not to worry and that he would make sure the car gets delivered to me by flat-bed. Later, the Salesman from the dealer where the CarsDirect vehicle was to be delivered called again. The vehicle had arrived...With over two hundred miles on it! So much for my "new car". They told me it had been driven there and that it was now going to be driven to me. That's not something you want to hear during the purchase of your first new car. Okay, do I really need to ask this question? Would you rather have a brand new car with only 8 miles on it, from a dealership twenty minutes away, for several hundred dollars less than the "already low" CarsDirect price or a "brand new" car that has hundreds of miles on it, from a dealership over four hours away for the CarsDirect price? The CarsDirect Vehicle Specialist was really being tested now. He started into this spill about how a deal was a deal and that he would have to sell the vehicle if I didn't go throught with the purchase. He even informed me that he was a single parent with two kids at home. Ohhh, the tears are just streaming down my face now. Anyway, I now have my shiny new 2002 Mustang GT...With fifty miles on. Forty-two of which are mine. My advice to you...Do your research before signing any papers with CarsDirect. The vehicle that you requested could be right down the street, when CarsDirect is going to the next state to get one. My advice to CarsDirect...I think it's time to revamp your "Nationwide Network" of Dealers.
