I made one purchase with Cabelas.com, and although the overall experience is positive, I do have some (minor) complaints and I will focus on them:
I was looking for a specific 2 Way Radio model, and was browsing through online stores to find the best price. I looked at Gomez.com for reliable and trusted firms.
Cabelas.com was it. They received good grades and their offer was about $20 lower than elsewhere, plus, it seemed that they had a great customers service.
Before I made my order, I contacted their live support to make sure that if something goes wrong with the radio I would be able to return it directly to them, and not to the manufacturer. They told me I could, since Cabelas.com is 100% satisfaction guaranteed. They also told me I would be able to return any unwanted items any time I want. This was also very important to me.
I happily went to start the ordering process. There was a small question asking me if this was a gift, and without thinking, I marked it as yes. I mean, yes, it was a gift
I was very annoyed that at the end of the process I saw a red message, that since this was marked as a gift, I will not receive any confirmations on my email, and I am advised to print out the order info. Say what??? I immediately contacted live support; they told me to email customers service (so why do they have live support? I wonder). I sent an email, and after 3 days was notified that they could not send me a copy of the order info. I dont see why its so difficult for them to change the status. I realize I should have inquired what the gift option meant, but even if I made a mistake why am I not allowed to correct it? But thats really a very small complaint (albeit annoying!).
Ive asked for a 2-3 days guaranteed delivery. When I talked with the live support rep, I was a bit surprised to find out that it might actually take 4 business days. Why, you ask? Because they dont count the shipping day
For example, say I place my order on Thursday; they will prepare my order for shipment of Friday. Friday will not be counted. Therefore I might get the package only on Wednesday! I fell they should write that its a 3-4 days guaranteed delivery
The last annoying incident I had with them involved a rebate coupon: Motorola issued a $25 rebate coupon for the specific radios that I purchased. The coupons are good for Jan 2002 till June 2002 (I purchased my radios on Feb 2002). I was very surprised when my gift receptors informed me there were no rebate coupons inside the boxes. True, Cabelas.com didnt say on its site that the radios will come with the coupon, but I knew that Motorola issued such a coupon for all radios sold from Jan 2002 till June 2002, so I thought its obvious that these coupons will be included.
I contacted live support, and they told me they werent aware the radios should come with a rebate coupon. I let them know about Motorolas offer, and even sent them to specific links at Amazon.com, where theyve uploaded a photo of the rebate coupon. And what does the rep has to say to that? That he can see Amazon.com is making such an offer, but Cabelas.com is not!!
I try again to explain to him this offer is by Motorola. They insert this coupon to each box. I didnt get it. Resolve this with Motorola and get me my rebate coupon.
I suspect that Cabela purchased their stock before Jan 2002 and thats why there was no rebate coupon. However, Im still entitled to it, and I feel its their duty to provide me with the coupon.
I do recommend this place since they did deliver the goods and they were in good condition. The return policy is very flexible and they do offer live support help, but I still feel that their customers service could be somewhat better.
