Wow! I am a dummy. I ordered a Fuji F31fd from Butterfly and then called to "verify" the order. I ended up buying a battery that I didn't want for $39. The sweetener the guy gave me was overnight shipping. After I hung up, I searched to find the same battery for more than $15, but most places had it for $12. Now I will also need to buy a charger.
The absolute worst part is that I had read reviews of Butterfly Photo that told the exact same kind of story. I just fell into it myself when "Charlie" told me how bad the included Fuji battery would be, and that the replacement would last "3 hours" or 3X as long. The advice from many people was just to listen to the spiel that "Charlie" gives and then politely say no. Do it. You'll feel so much better. Believe me. |

I ordered a $650 Sony camcorder plus extra battery. The (cheap) extra battery did not work with the camcorder. I returned it (via USPS Priority Mail - which is tracked) and Butterfly sent me the same kind of battery again, which obviously did not work.
I returned the second battery (via USPS in a stamped envelope - which is NOT tracked). Mistake. Butterfly claimed it never received the battery. I'm 99.99% sure they received the battery because I had a return label. I just can't prove it. Calls to their customer support were sometimes disconnected, and sometime not answered. I then tried to work through a sales rep, but was put back in the infinite queue. Emails appear to be answered just once a day as long as there is no trouble. But once we were in a stand-off, subsequent emails were ignored. And then the camera broke. I was lucky because it was within the Sony warranty. But this is a lot to have to go through. I would not go through Butterfly again and would not recommend dealing with them. |

hideous service and blatantly unfair sales practices - my order was held almost two weeks while I received multiple telephone calls of solicitation, requesting I purchase more - they would not send my merchandise until I spoke to them, despite my leaving them voice and email that I did not wish to purchase anything additional - after two weeks, I finally cancelled the order and was told it would still take several more days before a credit was applied to my credit card purchase - I had read similar things from others, yet others reported positive experiences - I gave them a try and NEVER AGAIN - beware, buyer!

Due to their low price, I took a chance in spite of some of the negative reviews. I did get a second email after the initial order confirmation, asking me to call one of their salesman. After reading the reviews, I knew what THAT was about, so I simply ignored the email. The product shipped out within 48 hours as their website promised. A shipment notification with tracking number was provided. Arrived via Fed-X two days later. Five business days total from order to receipt. No problems at all. I think as long as you understand their "game" regarding add-on selling, and can accept that or are prepared to deal with it, they are fine. In my case, simply ignoring their request to call them was enough to avoid any hassle, like some have experienced.

I ordered a Toshiba HDTV w/DVD Player. Butterfly Photo called me before filling the order to confirm that I did indeed want an HDTV with an ATSC tuner; they also offered to sell me an extended warranty. I confirmed that I wanted an ATSC tuner even though I had a satellite service and I agreed to the extended warranty. Delivery was timely. When the HDTV arrived I saw it has a label on it placed by Toshiba indicating that it has no ATSC tuner. The promised extended warranty was not included either. Their mechanised phone system sorts the telephone calls. If you call with a problem you are placed on hold for long periods of time. After spending hours on the phone waiting to speak to someone about my problem to no avail I wrote e-mails. Butterfly Photo's e-responses ignored my questions and just told me they were sorry and that I should take the tv to have it repaired. Their customer service is non-existent; and their business practices are suspect based on my experience. This took place between Jan-March 2007.
I cannot recommend them as a good web site to do business. |

After reading Epinions.com prior to ordering a plasma tv from Butterfly Photo I felt I needed to share my experience. I ordered a Sony 23" LCD tv online from Butterfly Photo in December 2005. The order was processed promptly with no hassles. I received the tv within 10 days and it has worked perfectly ever since. I can recommend Butterfly Photo from my experience.

I was on the fence about ordering a big hdtv from a internet retailer at first. The price was really low so was wondering if there was a catch. I read some horror stories of people buying high ticket items from the web. I am glad to say that butterfly photo was very quick and painless buying experience. I ordered a 60a2000 hdtv on friday and recieved it next wed. I was not pressured in to buying extended warranty nor extra cables. I give this store 5 stars.

There is a up sale call to sell additional products, but they are not abusive. On line i had purchased the Repairtech 2 year warranty. When i was called i upgraded to the 5 year for a discount. I Paid 200 for the 5 year Repairtech Warranty. I had done research on Repairtech Previous to placing the order on line. They Checked out with the BBB. This Was the best price for this camera bar none. Any camera (with Lense) below 1500 is bate and switch with grey market.

Bad experience. They charged my card the day of the order, but did not ship for two days (I paid for 2 day delivery).They added additional shipping charge after the order was completed online. Then they gave it to DHL who could not make delivery for six days. Butterfly customer service kept me on hold for over 30 minutes, then bumped me to voice mail and never returned the call. They are the lowest.

I waited 5 days and was given one excuse after another, (samsung 40" LCD, $1400)! eventually, they said the one they had was damaged and that they were trying to drop ship one from Samsung? (They are NOT an authorized samsung dealer?) then thay said that they couldn;t drop ship it after all (what a surprise) once you have placed your order, try calling them and getting through!! i was on hold for 35 minutes ! in the end i called the sales hotline (pretending to want to place an order) so i could speak to someone..these are a VERY small outlet, they have no stock, and try to forefil orders they take on their website AFTER they have taken your money. Only good thing here is that they didn't charge my card!.

Butterflyphoto.com is the internet version of 'bait and switch'. They make it possible to place a order on their website but they want processs or finalize the order until you make a phone call to them so they can try and sell you some additional merchandise. I will not do business with this merchant again. If they want to be really honest, then get rid of the internet order process all together and just put their "800 number" on the website for everyone to call in and order and see how their customers respond to that technique!

I placed order on 2/13 and it was emailed as confirmed but 5 days later the order had not been placed or shipped. I was expected to talk to a representative for supposedly more information but that information was to attempt to sell me more merchandise which I was not interested in. When talking to the representative on 2/19, he said the order would ship in 7 days. That was unacceptable to me as I intended to take the camara on a vacation 2/23. I informed him that I would cancel the order if it was not here by 2/22. He expedited the order and I did receive it on 2/21. I did not appreciate having my order held until talking to a salesperson.

Just like most people's experience, after I placed my order online, one of the sales men called me to try to sell me the extended warranty and some extra accessories. They were not that pushy though I did not buy any of the extra stuffs. I received my digital camera five days after I placed my order. That?s pretty quick. Though I don?t like the sales guy to call me before they ship the products, their overall service is good.

DHL told me that I would receive my package on Friday between 12:00 and 5:00 PM and I needed to be there to sign for the package. I took off work to be home when it arrived--it didn't. Then Monday they told me it would arrive between 12:00 and 3:00 PM. Again I changed my schedule to be there when it arrived--it didn't. I called them again and they said they would call the driver--eventually he showed up. I would not use DHL after the experience I had with them.

The customer service representative called to verify my order and basically told me what I was purchasing wasn't good enough and I really should be buying this better more expensive item. I already made my choice and didn't need to be second guessed by someone I don't know or care what about their opinion. They may have been being "helpful", but I found it condescending.

Being able to ask a simple question was very important to me. The purpose of my question was to verbaly verify if the product was indead new, unopened, and factory sealed. I was able to do this very effectively with a simple call -- it gives me a much better feeling to be able to do that over the phone (rather than email) because it allows me to test the responsiveness of the merchant. Butterfly photo met that requirement at the lowest market price. I will not only look to them for my future camara needs, but I will also recommend them to friends and family.
In other words, they have earned my word-of-mouth advertising. The only problem is availability on Saturdays, but if that is for religious convictions then
I understand -- that is the only reason I rated that as good instead of excellent.

I've ordered a digital camera (canon SD600) and some accessories. I had to call back to "confirm the order", that is, they try to sell you other items (annoying, but I knew this).
Quickly, after 2 days, I've received the package, including all the accessories, but without the camera!!! I've called the customer support, and after waiting 20 MINUTES on the phone, they told me that I have to wait 7 to 14 days for the claim to be "processed", and that it's not certain that I'll have my camera, or my money back (my card was charged already). FedEx confirmed the package was lighter that it was supposed to be when it was delivered. Update: Finally, after a month or so, they received a check from FedEx and decided to send me another camera. Everything went fine this time, phew! Anyway, even if I assume it wasn't their fault, I still think a serious shop would solve such an issue in a week, not a month ... |

I ordered a Sony Alpha A100 Digital SLR camera from butterflyphoto.com. I had read some good and bad reviews, so I was a little nervous about the transaction. I did notice that they recently became members of BBB, so I thought that it was worth a shot.
My nervousness was unfounded. Within minutes of ordering, I received a confirmation by email. About four hours later, I received an email with the DHL tracking number (I paid for 2 day delivery). I received my order from DHL a total of 52 hours after placing the order. This was actually earlier than advertised as butterflyphoto.com allows themselves 1-2 days to process the order. By the way, the price was about $60 cheaper than other online photo dealers in NY with worse reputations. I would gladly buy from butterflyphoto.com again. |
