Terrible customer service

Customer service clearly implied they did not want my business.  After finding a digital camera I was interested in purchasing online at www.butterflyphoto.com, I called their customer service line to clear up some unclear information on the website (two examples: the service contract language included two "benefits" with asterisks, implying a footnote and conditions for those benefits to apply, yet there were no footnotes; and the suggested service contract was for a more expensive camera, making the contract more expensive than simply buying the service contract for the actual camera price [found elsewhere on their website]).  Upon asking why they suggested the more expensive contract the response was, "Well you are sure a stickler... the contract could have been for $1000 - you would still have been covered."  No attempt was made to answer my question.  When I suggested that the individual was being rude and asked to speak to his boss, his response was, "Over that?!?"  He clearly did not want to please me, the customer - so I hung up.  I called the operator back and asked to speak to the manager.  After waiting on hold, the manager came on and asked how he could help.  I explained the situation and was told that the problem was mine - I was at fault.  Again, the attitude was never "We want your business, what can we do to make a sale?"  When I told him that I wouldn't do business with them because of this he said that they didn't want my business.
Ultimately I will probably buy the exact same camera from Amazon (for more money) because I have always received prompt, courteous service (via email) from them.  I will always default to the company that implies to me that they WANT my business.  And I mourn the loss of local stores who have been replaced by Big Box stores (Best Buy, etc) and impersonal online sites.

Bottom line: Butterflyphoto.com sells cameras cheaply online.  If you are simply looking for the best price they may be your best choice.  If you have questions or problems, be prepared for frustration and attitude.
