Hi everyone,

So, here is my story...a week ago my French class teacher told us to buy this French textbook....it costs $150.  I googled it up and bookbyte.com popped with the price of $20.  I thought I was dreaming or something.  There was no image for the book though, but I compared the ISBN & all the other information I had and that was it. I decided to try it out - after using a coupon that I got from a friend, it was $21 WITH the shipping, so I got it.  I live in NYC, the book was shipped from Oregon....Today is exactly 7 days from the moment I ordered it.  I am holding it in my hands right now -  it is all nice and new.

I just saved $130!!!

Will tell all my friends - that's AWESOME!!!

They sold me a book reeking of CAT PEE. I am not joking! It was disgusting. The pages were stained yellow and it stunk so badly I needed to put it in a zip lock. They listed the condition of the book as "acceptable". I don't think selling someone a book that is covered in pee and completely unsanitary can be listed as acceptable.

I read reviews about bookbyte and decided not to order my college textbooks from them based on what I saw. (Scores of 1 & 2.) I then ordered through abebooks.com, who compiles books from other stores. The store I ended up buying from turned out to be bookbyte, but under another name, northwest I think?

I ordered Thursday with express shipping because I really needed it for my class, and Saturday I got a message saying that my order was canceled because the book was no longer in inventory! Why wouldn't you remove the book if it's already been purchased? So now I've lost 2 days in getting my much needed textbooks to me!

They said they will be refunding my money in 5 days! It's a good thing I had other cash in my account to buy a second book or else I would be delayed SEVEN days in buying my textbook.

Just a word to the wise, take heed of these bad reviews.

Like many others, I was ripped off by bookbyte.com. I sent them a textbook quoted at over $60. Being a patient consumer, I waited over 2 months to receive a check in the mail, figuring it was the busy season for textbook buybacks. When I finally checked the status of the order online, it said it had been cancelled! I had not received any notification of cancellation or any problems whatsoever with the order. I emailed customer service and demanded either my book back or my money. They replied that the book I sent them was not the book I had said it was (different ISBN), which I know for a fact to be untrue. They said they "had kept the book in the warehouse in case they would ever be selling that edition." And behold! They had just decided to start selling it, but at a much lower price than the book I actually sent them. Had I not forced them to pay me, they would have sold my book, never paid me, and never even notified me. Scams like this make me sick. Tell every student you know not to use this service.

We found out in April that my daughter needed to take one more math class in order to get accepted to her college of choice.  I ordered the text for her on-line math class on April 22d from Bookbyte.com; it arrived here on April 28th.  We are in Germany, so I was VERY impressed with the speed of delivery.  We will send the text back to resell it when she's done with it, but I have sold books back to college bookstores in the past, so I understand how picky they are when they "rate" them and how little money you can expect to get back.

Bookbyte does offer convenience to sellers as well as good prices.  However, as many have noted, they habitually downgrade the books' conditions.  I have sent brand new books which were downgraded to "used" with fictive reasons offered.

Bookbyte is an inverse "bait and switch."  High prices are advertised, low prices are paid.  Beware of these cheats.

I had a HORRIBLE experience with Bookbyte.  I had to reorder the same textbook twice because they cancelled the first order and did not bother telling me for over a week.  When I reordered the book I paid for 2 day shipping and did not receive it for 5 days.  I then had to send them 3 emails before I even got a response which basically said tough luck.  Bookbyte is still refusing to refund my money and I am currently in dispute with my credit card over it.  TERRIBLE business ethics and even WORSE customer service.  Do not buy from BookByte or you'll get scammed.

My complaint is simple. Bookbyte.com is one of many companies who buy back used textbooks. I gave them the information on the two books, and they gave me the price they would pay for them. Both books were in excellent condition. After they received them, they reduced the price of one of them stating that it did not include a CD and some pages were highlighted. The email also said that they would not return the books to me under any circumstances. So, they can promise you one price and then change their minds and you are stuck with it. The quote they gave me had nothing to do with a CD, and the book was in excellent condition. This is simply an unfair business practice. I believe they should honor their original quote for the book. If the book was in poor shape, I would not be making this complaint. Shame on Bookbyte.com!!

I ordered a book I needed for a class which never arrived.  Turns out, BookByte didn't put my company's name on the label (which was included on the "ship to" information I provided).  When they FINALLY credited me, they didn't refund my shipping costs, even though it was THEIR ERROR AND NEGLIGENCE which caused this package to be "undeliverable".  I am still waiting for a response as to why they're penalizing me for their mistake.  I WILL NEVER EVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN.  Horrible service.  Avoid them at all costs!!!!!

I just sold back around 20+ of my textbooks to bookbyte and everything went smoothly.  I don't know about other people's experience, but all of my books I rated as "used some highlighting" (all had heavy highlighting and notes in the margins) and they paid me the full estimated price.  Several hundred bucks back in my pocket!!  Some people here are claiming that they rip off all sellers and that wasn't my experience, so I thought I would weigh in.

The process is not quick - from mailing to books to getting my check in the mail was about 3-4 weeks.  That's my only complaint.

I will FILE A CONSUMER COMPLAINT against Bookbyte.com! I sent them my books over six weeks ago and until today have NEVER RECEIVED A CHECK. When I called them they told me they sent the check and I SHOULD WAIT A MONTH to receive it! I live in California, the check supposedly was sent from Oregon...that never takes longer than two weeks at the most! When I insisted to speak to a supervisor I was told no one was available to speak to me and was promised a call-back. NO ONE EVER CALLED ME BACK!

Sellers BEWARE!!! BookByte.com is a RIP OFF!!! I submitted my ISBN's to several book buyers and since BookByte had the highest bid, I sent my books to them. One of them was NEW, the other in EXCELLENT condition. They quoted $57.00 and upon receipt sent me an email saying the book was frayed and yellowed and would only pay $14.35 for it. This is complete BS...don't trust these people and spread the word - THEY SUCK!!!

I was quoted, not given an estimate of $25.00, yet actually only received half of that. I took photos of the book I sold them. Two weeks after I sent the book to them I get an email letting me know they will sell the book for $12.50. They explain the book is in poor condition, but I have the photos to prove it is not. DON'T FALL FOR THE SCAM! You sell to them with their high quotes and they actually pay you rock bottom price, if they even pay you at all.
BAIT AND SWITCH. They also will NOT return your book under any circumstance. If they don't pay you for it they throw it away.
STAY AWAY!!!

Received textbook for my daughter's class NEW, shrink-wrapped for $26.00 plus a few extra dollars for expedited shipping. Found them through eBay as a member store. Cheapest she could find online NEW was close to $80.00 (List at $107.00) and USED at $60-70. Then read some terrible reviews online that they had shipped USED books instead of NEW, etc. etc. I quickly opened the package and sure enough, shrink-wrapped, obviously new, shipped USPS Priority Mail and received in 3 days! I couldn't be happier and will always look at their pricing during the coming semesters. I feel I really got a bargain.

Not a good experience. Yes, it was easy to locate my books by ISBN# and print a shipping label, but all book buying sites offer this feature. The bad part of my experience is once the books are received, they are evaluated for quality to determine value. Well, the quote they provided me was reduced a great deal because they discounted my books so severely! The books themselves were in very very good condition. There was no writing or highlighting, no folded pages or corners, very little wear around the edges if any. One that was practically new was discounted down to $6.00! They always reduce the amount they originally quote you. If you are looking for a place to sell your books, go some place else!!

Find another service to buy your books. This one is a ripoff.

They quote high prices for your book online, then send much less. I submitted a brand-new, shrink-wrapped book, for which they offered $40 online.

The check arrived for $33, due to wear-and-tear. They send blather in response, and you are obligated to take whatever they offer, since they don't return books.

I ordered my book on 7/28/06. 7 days after my order, I emailed to check on it since their website tracking info showed nothing. They quickly replied and said that it takes 4-7 days for them to receive the book and then 3-7 days before they ship it out to me. That's ridiculous! A person could wait 14 days before their package is shipped? I have never heard of such a thing. 12 days after I placed my order, I again emailed to check the status. They replied with the same thing about their shipping times, and then told me that it had shipped the day before.

What was the point in telling me their shipping policy again? I guess they were annoyed because I was checking on my shipment 12 days after I ordered it when they had already told me it could take up to 14 days to be shipped...which might I reiterate, is ridiculous.

So Finally, I received my book yesterday, 8/10/06. 13 days after I ordered it. The book was in new condition as promised, but don't order from these people unless you have plenty of time to wait.

BookByte.com provides the worst service anybody can ever get. Placed an order, got charged on the same day, but never shipped. Called up customer service after 3 weeks, get rude answers, says it has been cancelled long back and fully refunded. Never got a refund or any communication about cancellation. On the website it still shows 'Ordered' Status. Have to dispute the amount from Credit Card Company. Be careful, and take a call while ordering.

I ordered a textbook that was sold as New. They shipped the book very quickly. It was in great condition when it arrived. It contained the online registration code for the publisher's website, and I didn't see any indication that it wasn't New.   Read full review...

I ordered a lab manual from Bookbyte through Amazon Jan. 24th. They confirmed my order on the 25th and promised to deliver at the latest Feb. 3rd. I had it shipped priority because I was late enrolling in the class. Today is the 4th of Feb. and no book, IF it comes tomorrow, it will be two days late. Delivery speed is horrible. I don't know about order accuracy because it isn't here yet. Customer service wasn't anything to hoop and holler about either. The lady on the phone didn't offer any info as to when it was shipped, she only stated that she couldn't refund me any money for three days. She didn't understand that I don't want a refund, I want the book ASAP. She didn't apologize.
Also, when I rate Ease of Ordering, I ordered through Amazon, so I do not know how easy it is through their website.

this website is INCREDIBLE. you will save $$ on all the books you buy and it ships MUCH faster than amazon or other book websites. Highly reliable. i am getting all my books from here from now on-- especially textbooks!
