BEWARE the 14 DAY return policy!!!
by slotownmomma, October 17, 2009

AHHHHH! I am so frustrated. My mom ordered some books and movies for my daughter's birthday. She ordered them on 9/12. They were received at my house on 9/16. She ordered early because in the past she has had problems with orders not going through online. This order went through fine and was received on time. My daughter opened her books and movies on her birthday, 10/15. Turns out that she already has Madagascar. I called Barnes and Noble and explained the situation..but they have a 14 day return policy!!!! That's it! No exceptions. I am stuck with two copies of this movie!

Do not like being lied to

I am usually an Amazon customer, but there was a book that I really wanted as fast as I could get it. I wanted to wait to see which store Amazon or Barnes and Noble would have it in stock first. Well I was extremely happy when I saw that Barnes and Noble listed the item as in stock and shipping in 2-3 days whereas Amazon still had it listed as not being available for almost another 2 weeks. Of course I went ahead an ordered the book from B&N completely excited about receiving this book in a few days. Now imagine my surprise when the next day i went back and checked B&N and saw that they now had the book as not available for another 2 weeks. I have no idea where B&N gets off with such false advertising. I immediately canceled my order with them and ordered the book from Amazon. At least Amazon never lied about their dates. I will never order anything from Barnes and Noble again.

B&N has worst customer service

I ordered college essay book on line which was easy to order and paid for expedited shipping overseas which was double the cost of book. Range for delivery time was 4-14 days which really sucks but book never arrived. I have to call 3 times to customer service but each time I got different response. Customer service was really worst. They want you to wait for another 2 weeks and then go to post office and inquire. Hey!. I paid for expedited shipping. I ordered book from Amazon and this was delivered on time. It is 8 weeks, I don't have book or my money which i am now calling my credit card company

VERY DISAPPOINTING

Very disappointing service from Barnes & Noble.com. Order took 4 extra days to ship then told at time of order and shipping was twice as long as promised. When I emailed to let them know, they responded with an email telling how to track the package. Other online retailers (such as Amazon) that I have used let you know when there are going to be delays and let you cancel the order. Barnes and Noble never gave me that option.

Disappointed Wii shopper!
by maleticm, December 2, 2008
|
|||||||
|
I was very disappointed in B&N. I ordered a Wii Nintendo console on 11/21/08. I received an e-mail confirming my order and then went on vacation. When I got back 10 days later, I found an e-mail from the B&N Audit department stating that my order had been cancelled since they did not receive any further information from me. The problem is that there never was a follow-up e-mail asking for any further information. Currently the Wii console is sold out and they were unable to assist me any further.
Based on this experience, I would never again shop at Barnes and Noble online. |

They threatened to cancel my order within 72 hours if I did not confirm my address, even though I used a confirmed Paypal account. I had to respond during normal business hours, you know, while I was working. Then they had me on the phone tree for more than 15 minutes waiting for the next available customer service rep. It is not worth the hassle to deal with B&N. Go someplace else if you can.

B&N changed my order total after I authorized the charge
by academic12, April 4, 2008

After many years of patronizing Barnes and noble.com, I have had an unfortunate experience and feel I must warn others. I've ordered many textbooks and been satisfied overall with their service. However, I recently placed an order and used a coupon. After I submitted the order and authorized a certain total, they emailed to tell me that my credit card was invalid. I dutifully provided the information again. Only after submitting this did I find that they had removed the coupon, and charged my card an amount that I had not authorized. When I saw this, I immediately attempted to cancel my order and was told this was not possible.
BEWARE! They will charge you any amount they please, and will not let you cancel your order. |

books damaged due to unacceptable packaging
by macika, March 26, 2008
|
|||||||
|
I received a gift card for Barnes and Noble and used it to purchase a book that I had always wanted. The book, which is very heavy was sent in a larger box with no protective packaging. There was no possibility that this book could have arrived without damage to the corners and jacket. They agreed to send another one. This time, a piece of bubble plastic was placed on top of the book, but still nothing at the sides to prevent the book and jacket from bouncing around. Needless to say, this book was damaged also. Barnes and Noble doesn't want to send another one (and I don't want to receive a third damaged book). They just want to credit the gift card, which is apparently only usable to order damaged books. I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau to try to get a refund of the price of the gift card, but I'm not holding my breath.

Terrible Service, if they deliver to the right place--terrible customer service
by jenh3825, March 16, 2008
|
|||||||
|
They are terrible! I ordered a $13 book, not only did they deliver it to the wrong place, but they told me I was going to have to wait 3-5 days for an investigation and then they'll contact me to notify me of their findings. Too bad I ordered the book 2 & 1/2 weeks ago and the birthday is in 3 days. When i told them I was dissatisfied, they told me I could dispute the charges. I am mortified to have used them. It would have been much quicker to buy the book, put it in a box and send it to the recipient myself. The situation is embarassing anyways, but their customer servie response just aggravates the situation. The Customer service agent actually told me I could buy another book to send or dispute the charge with the credit card company. Amazon, who I just placed a $180 order with I know wouldn't treat me like that over a $13 book. DON'T EVER USE BARNES & NOBLE. AMAZON IS MUCH, MUCH BETTER.

This is the absolute worse web site I have ever experienced! I bought a text book, It took 9 days to process the order. They sent and email saying it was shipped but USPS picked it up 3 days later and I still have to wait 5-8 business days. Tracking is impossible, they don't give you an estimated delivery date. Classes have started and I still don't have my book and I don't know when I will get it. I had better luck dealing with normal people selling books on Half.com. I will never use them again and will not shop there anymore. Go Borders!

Customer Service Nightmare

Went to bookstore, and bought instore books in November. Out of stock items were ordered at the store. Told I had to pay for them in advance because they were considered special order. Did that. They sent email stating that items were shipped out, about a week later. Rec'd two of the items within a few weeks from that, third item told was backordered, and would not be shipped until after Christmas. This was not relayed to me until a week before Christmas. Called customer service and they told me to call the store that I purchased them at for refund and cancellation. Called store and was told that it was a Barnes&Noble.com issue. Had to go to a rude manager who told me it would take up to three weeks to process refund. Canceled order and went to amazon site. Rec'd book in three days without paying extra shipping. Price was even cheaper than Barnes & Noble. Learned valuable lesson, and they have lost a customer.

B & N return policy is not consumer friendly.
by fisherfour, January 6, 2008

This review is of the B&N return policy. I received a book as a gift that was a duplicate of one in my library. When I returned it, they would only issue a store credit in spite of the fact that it was paid for with cash and I had the gift receipt. I will no longer do business with them. NEVER AGAIN
by jwed01, January 1, 2008

I order 100% of Christmas Gifts online and have now for several years. Not once in all those orders or all that time, whether it was Amazon or a small Mom&Pop online business, have I experienced such poor customer service. My order with BN was placed on 12/8. By 12/11 I had received 2 emails saying it would be delivered within 5 to 8 days. ON DEC 24TH (I was already in flight to the Christmas/delivery destination), I received an email stating that 7 of 9 items would not be delivered until 12/27. Of course, with no email access at my holiday home, I called customer service to ask about my order, they verified the late delivery, & offered free return shipping as a consolation... gee thanks! Especially since the gifts would not arrive until I'd left to go home! It sounds trite - but it will be Amazon or anyone except Barnes & Noble in the future.

False Business Practices !!
by bardstownky, December 28, 2007

|
AVOID BARNES & NOBLE. They should be reported for giving false information. When I ordered a calendar and book on Dec 18th, the website stated that it would ship out within 24 hours, in time for Christmas delivery. After I ordered, they told me that these were items that went out 2 or 3 days later. THAT IS NOT WHAT WAS STATED ON THEIR WEBSITE WHEN I ORDERED THESE ITEMS!!!! It said within 24 hours!! Both items qualified for fast free delivery. What a JOKE !! They did not send them out until Dec 21st. I received the calendar on December 27th in a box big enough to hold 10 books. The book I ordered was shipped separately in a different box but I still have not received it. So much for fast free delivery. I will make certain that Barnes and Noble gets free advertising from me (false info when ordering!)

The very worst in meeting their promises and guarantees. I'm going elsewhere next time.
by christobalito, December 26, 2007
|

Did not meet their guaranteed delivery policy, which was pushed very hard both on their website and through e-mails, despite repeated assurances that the items would be delivered on time. The very worst on-line experience I have had with Christmas shopping this season - will go to other booksellers or order different types of products before returning to Barnes and Noble.
Customer service was sweet as pie when promising to deliver on time (and I still had time to cancel the order), things changed dramatically when they did not comply with their guarantee. All they offered was to discount the shipping price, which shouldn't have been charged in the first place, as the guarantee was free shipping AND delivery by Christmas. |

Free, Yes. Fast..No.
by suttonian, December 21, 2007

Believing in their "free and fast delivery" come-on, I ordered 9 items on the Barnes & Noble website on December 11th. All items were noted to be in stock. I received an email from them saying the items would arrive within 3 business days. One item arrived within the promised time. I then received an email a few days later stating that the remaining items would be shipped out on December 22nd! I called and spoke with a customer rep who explained that the 8 remaining items were "probably" coming from a different warehouse and that their shipping policy was that they send out items when various warehouses put them together. She said she would transfer me to a supervisor but, instead, I got a recording advising me to leave a message. The recording also advised me that I could not expect a response to my message. I would not do business again online with Barnes and Noble. Very disappointing.

Barnes and Noble is by far the worst company ever. I had ordered a texbook online for it to be internationally shipped and i paid a load of money for it to be priority since i needed it in 4 days, they didn't ship it out until the next week. they are horrible in service, their 24 hours shipping is not guaranteed and never cheap. My experience has been absolutely awful. After using Amazon for years, I ordered 2 copies of a 2 volume textbook from BN.com because my wife had a membership to the brick and mortar store and, with the membership, it was cheaper.
So, everyone do the math with me...2 volumes times 2 sets = 4 books. You can do it but BN.com absolutely cannot. First we received one set, then after 4 hrs on the phone including hold time, we received a second copy of volume two. So, currently I have 3 of the 4 books and there is no end in sight. They "can't find" the tracking info on their latest shipment and now they have 10 new excuses but I'm still waiting for the book. They are currently unable to provide me with an estimate as to when this will be resolved. Update: after a total of >6 hrs on the phone and multiple attempts, I now have 2 complete sets. In the interim, I received a 4th copy of volume 2. So, in addition, I have 2 extra copies of volume 2 that they don't want back. |
|
||||||
|
BN.com provides good service only if you order the right book and it can be ship on time. If you order a book and realize a few minutes later, after they notify you, that your book can be ship only 3 weeks later, it is now too late to cancel the order.
