Here are the gory details of my saga with Amazon over 1 single freaking book:
I ordered a book, which supposedly was still in stock, on February 18 and was given a March 7 shipping date (1st shipping date) . March 7 passed without delivery.
I checked the order on their website and I found a suddenly different shipping date of March 24 (2nd shipping date). When this date passed without shipment, I e-mailed them and was told that the item was out of stock and that they "didn't expect this to happen" and that "this isn't a typical Amazon experience" in a rather generic e-mail. I was given a new shipping estimate of May 7 (3rd shipping date) and also was advised to E-mail them again if it hadn't shipped by then.
Well, guess what? The item
still hadn't been shipped by May 7. I e-mailed them yet again and was told an another generic e-mail that the item was backordered and out of stock. I suppose they thought I was too stupid to figure that out on my own. Also, they repeated the polite BS about "not expecting this to happen" and of course they "apologized for your inconvenience". Adding to the frustration, this time they didn't even bother to give a new shipping date. Even more infuriating, they reminded me that I could cancel the order. Because that would spare them the trouble of doing their job: actually finding my book and delivering it.
Apparently they think I have the patience of Job. Well, here I am, writing this review on May 27, 3 freaking months after I first ordered the book and the book is nowhere to be found. And they've promised to give me a new shipping date "as soon as possible". To them, soon must mean a month because I still haven't been given a new date. I guess they are just as clueless about what's going on as I am.
No wonder they don't charge you for any items 'till they ship; they apparently allow people to order items that they might not ever have again.
BTW, Amazon hasn't given me any sort of discount or coupon to try to compensate for this endless nonsense. Hmmm, I thought they felt bad about misleading and inconviencing me.
