I had purchased an Olympus C-7070 camera from 6th. Avenue Electronics about four years ago. At the time I had some reservations because their price was 'way down there with the bait-and-switch artists who proliferate on the internet. To my great delight, the order was processed with no hitches. I got one call to confirm details, and was politely asked if I wanted a warranty. I didn't, and no pressure was applied.
Now I decided that I wanted a little more camera than the point-and-shoot C-7070 I bought four years ago. I decided to stay with Olympus because of their customer support and high value for money. I was amazed to find the Olympus E-500 2-lens kit for only $443 at 6th. Avenue. I ordered it immediately (on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at about 10 PM). Since I was shipping to another address, I had to contact my card company to add the alternative address, but that is routine. Most vendors will ONLY ship to the billing address. I was not troubled by the episode, though it did cause a three-day delay.
After that was taken care of, the order was promptly handled, and was in the hands of DHL the following day, four days after I placed the order. I have been tracking it, and it will arrive tomorrow, May 19th., eleven days (ten, really, since I placed the order so late in the day) after placing the order.
I checked back on the web site, and I found the camera is now listed for $543, still a good price, but not a barn-burner. I suspect that someone posted the price wrong, but it does credit to 6th. Ave that they did not try to weasel out of the sale. Not only that, but there was, as there was four years before, no pressure of any kind applied to buy an extended warranty, memory cards or anything else, quite unlike my experiences at most brick-and-mortar stores.
I will certainly buy from 6th. Avenue in the future.
