Chateau Leoville Las Cases St. Julien 2003 750ml Wine
See Details
from $214
11 offers
Extremely small yields of only 21.2 hectoliters per hectare, from a harvest that began on September 11 and ended September 26, the 2003 Leoville Las Cases is a blend of 70.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17.2% Merlot, and 12.6% Cabernet Franc. The 13.27% alcohol is slightly less than the record alcohol level attained here in 2002, and the pH is 3.82. Only 54% of the harvest made it into the grand vin. Still a large-scaled, monolithic wine, it will no doubt move up the scale as it sorts itself out and becomes more delineated. Inky/ruby/purple-colored, it possesses the classic Las Cases purity and balance along with layer upon layer of ripe, pure, black cherry and black currant fruit wrapped around a solid core of minerals and subtle oak. Medium to full-bodied, with sweet tannin, but not as opulent as many of its peers, this classically proportioned, well-delineated 2003 is a brilliant achievement from Jean-Hubert Delon and his staff. The solidly made 2003 Leoville Las-Cases (13.2% alcohol) is a b

Vivid aromas of berries, flowers and minerals follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with silky tannins and fresh, clean finish. Not the biggest Conseillante I have tasted, but refined and harmonious. This is getting expensive. Best after 2008.(WS)

This world-famous estate belongs to one of the oldest and most aristocratic French families : the Marquis de Laguiche. Out of the 14 different owners, the Marquis de Laguiche family is propriétaire of the largest portion of Le Montrachet, entirely located in Puligny (according to many authorities, the better side). It has been in their hands since 1363. It is ironical that the hillside of Montrachet, producing Burgundy`s most prestigious white wine (and in some say the world`s most complex), should look so unprepossessing. The etymology of the place-name is actually instructive : the word rachet refers to a poor type of soil where only scrawny bushes can grow. It is therefore on this poor, hard, infertile soil, which geologists call Bathonian limestone, that the Chardonnay grape develops this unique terroir character. . Montrachet is full bodied and luscious, yet elegant. It is only after a few years in bottle that it will develop its famous complexity and richness. Nose and

French for 'inspiration', La Muse is crafted primarily from Merlot fruit and represents a Pomerol-style wine. This wine's distinctive fruit purity in the nose and richness on the palate is the result of sourcing grapes from the Mayacamas Mountain in Sonoma.

A blend comprised primarily of Merlot, La Muse demonstrates the elegance and finesse of a Pomerol style wine. This wine begins with a deep purple color, followed by a blackberry nose that is enhanced by a hint of chocolate and polished wood. The full, soft mouth is distinctly elegant as each layer has unique flavor and texture. Red berry flavor prevails, including raspberry and notes of huckleberry. Cabernet Franc provides structure, and coupled with well-integrated tannins, results in a long, graceful finish.

[Wine & Spirits: 92, Wine Enthusiast: 91] This is classic mountain-style Cabernet at its finest! It is dark, dense and concentrated with aromas of boysenberry, plum, cedar, menthol and rum cake and a rich, earthy core of black fruit, chocolate and chewy tannins. Wine Enthusiast said, "This ageless wine is nowhere near ready to drink due to the massive tannins. Yet there's no question it will age for many years. If you must open it now, decant for 24 hours." In spite of that dire warning, I suggest you buy two or three or four bottles, try one now with a grilled steak and lay the rest down for a few more years. You won't be sorry. The Howell Mountain area exploded millions of years ago leaving an undulating pattern of plateaus between 1,600 feet and 2,400 feet above the floor of Napa Valley. La Jota Vineyard Company began in 1898 and became one of several located on the mountain before the turn of the century. In the late 19th century, grapes from the Howell Mountain region were already

The subtle, pale gold color of Taittinger Brut La Francaise is punctuated by extremely fine, persistent bubbles rising to the surface in fragile strands. The fragrant berry and white fruit aromas, underscored by toasty, yeasty notes are confirmed on the ample, elegant palate which is strongly marked by refined Chardonnay fruit flavors. A fresh, balanced acidity sustains the whole, and carries into a long, crisp toasty finish of great delicacy. . An elegantly fresh and delicate Champagne blended from a high proportion of Chardonnay grapes to yield a refined flavor palette of pear and stone fruits offset by warm, yeasty notes and hints of breadcrust. WA 91-94Pts - Tasting Notes - The most famous wine of the estate, the 2005 Hermitage La Chapelle, looks outstanding. Apparently the new owners eliminated nearly 50% of the production to come up with this cuvee, which looks set to have at least 30 years of longevity. It was aged in all small French barrels, of which about 15-20% are new, so the actual winemaking and elevage haven t changed as of yet, although the famed Bordeaux winemaking guru, Professor Denis Dubourdieu, has been hired, and his expertise tends to be more with white rather than red wines, so we ll see what his talents provide in future vintages. This wine is outstanding, dark ruby/purple-colored with notes of creme de cassis, tobacco leaf, and some melted licorice and gamey animal notes. It is medium to full-bodied, has high tannin, moderate acidity, and admirable purity and depth. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2027.

Veuve Cliquot Ponsardins Prestige Cuvee, La Grande Dame, is a very great wine which pays homage to a very great lady in the Champagne world, Madame Cliquot. The incomparable finesse of this cuvee results from a blend of eight of the houses traditional Grand Crus.Strength and structure come from the dominance of Pinot Noir (60-65%) from the best plots on the Montagne de Reims (Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay) and the Grande Vallee de la Marne (Ay), blended with the freshness and delicacy of Chardonnay (35-40%) from the most prestigious crus on the Cote des Blancs (Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger).. Broad and open-textured, this offers lemon, apple and peach flavors. A touch coarse, ending with a chalky sensation. Drink now through 2018. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. –BS Sparkling Wine SPARKLING WINE IMPORTED
