2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark, rich full-bodied wine with great tannic structure and mouth-feel. It has a garnet color and a nose of ripe boysenberries, cherry liqueur, dark chocolate, sandalwood and a hint of roasting meat. On palate, it is mouth-coating and incredibly rich in umami. It has a very long, savory finish with slight grip of fine-grained tannins. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2030. Wine Enthusiast rating: 91.

vineyard takes its name from an abandoned stretch of early 20th century Sonoma County highway. That link with past is especially important to us, as these are only grapes we still crush by foot (really). This is a great vintage for Syrah and it may have produced my favorite wine of 2010 harveSaint wine is bright purple, deep and dark, with an exotic aroma of crushed berries and fennel. There's a trace of freshly ground black pepper in there too, along with some clove or allspice. Properly ripened Syrah has most complex aroma of all old-world varieties, I think, and we seem to have captured it here. I like softness too. It makes for an attractive weight on tongue, neither heavy nor vapid, with a texture that swallows easily. This one seems to define 'Finish'.

This is second vintage in which 20% of Failla's young-vine Chardonnay blend was fermented and aged in concrete egg vessels. remainder fermented and aged for 10 months in French oak, only 15% new and barely perceptible in finished wine's flinty nose balanced with citrusy scents of grapefruit and lime filled out with a hint of jasmine and oyster-shell. textural contributions of concrete- fermented lots nicely balance wine's vibrant mouth-watering acidity.
