Espiridion has a high light nose with lots of citrus overtones. A bit of roasted pear too. Lots of tropical fruit on the tongue, spicy and woody. A clean dry finish. Santo Domingo Albarradas is located in the high Mixe region south of Oaxaca. The Mixe is a high altitude tropical zone closely resembling parts of Hawaii. Tropical plants and fruits grow here beside rushing mountain streams. Cool gray mists blow through the valleys and Pine trees also grow nearby. The water here is spectacular. Only 38% of the production (10,000 cases) made it into the grand vin, a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc. From barrel, I thought it was a modern day version of the 1996 or 1986, and certainly the 1996 comparison still holds. I thought it was somewhat austere from barrel, but that is no longer an issue. This is a beautifully rich Chateau Latour boasting a dense ruby/purple color, a sweet, smoky, charcoal, cassis, graphite, and forest floor-scented nose, full body, an attractive freshness, and sweet, noble tannins. Beautiful deep red and shiny robe. nose offers complex aromas of very ripe fruit with elegant notes of toasted bread mixed with a variety of spices. Subtle note of cocoa flatter palate. A typical Medoc wine, well-bodied and harmoniously matured in barrels. tannins are fine, present and long on palate.
