Scharzhofberg is one of most famous vineyard sites in Germany, likely to have originally been planted by Romans. Situated in Wiltingen, removed from Saar in a side valley and facing south, its slopes are quite steep, with a 3060% grade, and high, at 180-280 meters elevation. Formed from grey Devonian slate, soils are very deep with no bedrock. This wine is always delicate, crisp and exquisite on palate. International Wine Cellar rating: 90.

This wine is from Germany, Rheinhessen region. With the famous Blue Nun on its beautiful blue bottle, and made from grapes grown in Rheinhessen on the banks of the River Rhine, this is a fine, medium-bodied white wine, now perhaps a little drier than you might expect, scented and delicious.. What on earth is woodruff?: Woodruff is a flowering herb-type plant. It’s super-strongly scented, the scent originating largely from a chemical called coumarin. The Germans apparently love woodruff – it’s in everything from Maywine to brandy to sausages to jam to ice cream. If you want an idea of how it tastes, think violets, but then make the violets white instead of purple.*

J. Christopher Nuages Pinot Noir really struck us. A joint venture between Jay Christophe and German Vintner Ernst Loosen, this wine has high toned plum, raspberry, smoke, and cigar character. Really juicy and round in the mouth.

Monkey Wine is named for the valley it is grown in Baden. Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) is the most noble of Germany's red grapes.
