Toyota Yaris - Do I hear an ECHO in here?

byshoplmart Jun 8, 2006

Pros Gas mileage, Price, cute, decent acceleration.
Cons Noisy, interior space/quality.
Recommended it? Yes

After a single generation Toyota has discontinued the ECHO nameplate, and for good reason. While the ECHO got great gas mileage, owners had to make too many compromises. To name a few, the ECHO was uncomfortable, cramped, it handled horribly, and overall it didn't stack up to the quality standards... Read full review »

Pros Ride is smooth and hugs the road, good gas mileage.
Cons Having issues with the radio.

I traded my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire in for the Toyota Yaris model. It took some time getting used to all of the features being set in the middle. I am not sure why the car was designed to have the speedometer in the middle, but it took some getting used to.

Problems

I do miss my Pontiac... Read full review »

Pros Inexpensive, economical transportation
Cons It is as basic as a car can get
Recommended it? Yes

When it became obvious that our 11 year old Ford Taurus was living on borrowed time, a new-to-us car became a necessity. After lots of research, test driving and haggling we purchased a new 2007 Toyota Yaris.

The Nitty Gritty Details
Available in both in a sedan and liftback model,... Read full review »

Yaris: Toyota's Subcompact Triple-Play

Background

"Yaris"—a combination of the German affirmative "Ja" and Charis, a Greek goddess of beauty—isn't a name that many American motorists will recognize. Or, in all likelihood, pronounce correctly.

But as fresh and funky as Toyota's new Yaris may seem, odds are good that... Read full review »

New 2007 Yaris: How much of an improvement over the Echo?

bymkaresh May 6, 2006

Pros Economy, large improvement over the Echo, not boring to look it
Cons Loud engine, no tach, boring to drive
Recommended it? No

Back in 1999 when Epinions was young and standards were still evolving, I reviewed the Toyota Echo. My one-star rating of the tiny car enraged Toyota loyalists, but my review accurately forecasted the car's poor sales. In 2005 Toyota offered the car only on a special order basis, and for 2006 it... Pros Price, mileage, fun and peppy ride!
Cons Base model is too sparse - options maybe not optional.

My wife and I barely use the 2nd car. When we went looking for something to replace our dying station wagon we wanted something small (for city parking), safe, reliable, economical and that didn't need to be taken to the gas station too often.
We looked at Toyota, Hyundai, Honda and Nissan's... Read full review »

Pros great mileage, tall seats, ergonomic, reliable, smooth suspension, best buy for the money.
Cons moans under acceleration, no lumbar support, thick pillars obstruct visibility.

When I shopped around for a car, there was really nothing to compete with the Yaris. I was looking for best mileage, reliability and price. Prius would have cost double and taken 10+ yrs to pay back in gas savings. I drove a Honda Fit and was unimpressed. In Canada, the Yaris and Corolla are the... Read full review »

I've been reading the reviews of the 2007 Toyota Yaris, and most of them have been positive for a good reason. This car is an amazing buy for the money. I own the Yaris 4-door Sedan (1.5L 4cyl 4A 106 hp). It's comfortable, roomy, solid, stylish and quite affordable. Oh, let's not forget that it... Read full review »

Surprisingly better than average

byjianye3 Jul 3, 2006

Pros Gas mileage, near cavernous interior, somewhat cute, small/easy to park/maneuver
Cons power and noise of engine, small/risky if you get in an accident
Recommended it? Yes

The Toyota Yaris is the most affordable Toyota around, but it really doesn't feel entry level. Overall, the car's engine is surprisingly sufficient. On paper, numbers such as 106 hp at a high 6000 rpm and 103 lbs-ft torque at 4200 rpm would lead you to believe that this tiny, little 1.5 liter... Read full review »
