This 10 inch tall pot (plus the lid height) heats quickly and holds the heat so it is great for boiling water for pasta - and is big enough to cook for 2 pounds of dry pasta. We use it for spaghetti. Because it holds heat it is good for long simmering also. The height could be a problem - the covered pot barely fits under our microwave and our simmering burner (gas) is there so the lid is tough to remove.
