The 12-220 has machined sides. Cutter rests at a 21? angle, ideal for cross-grain planing. Cutter is fully adjustable for depth of cut and alignment.

The No. 7 is known as a jointer. It features the same blade and width as the No. 6, but it is 22 long (41/4 longer) and weighs 91/2 lbs. (nearly 2 lbs. heavier), making it almost the same weight as a Stanley No. 8. The No. 7 is used for truing edges prior to glue-up and flattening boards or large surfaces like tabletops. We found the extra heft came in handy when dealing with any grain that might have given a lighter plane trouble and was less tiring to use. Bench Planes are the workhorses of the shop. We make all sizes that Stanley did, from the tiny No. 1 to the huge No. 8. Each has its own charm, but personal preference plays a large part in choosing the right bench plane for a particular job. A beginner needs two basic sizes - a smoothing plane (No. 4 or 4-1/2) and a Jointer (No. 7 or 8). A Jack Plane (usually a No. 5) would be the next most useful size. The frog design is unique - a fully machined mating fit between the frog and the body. The design also allows precise and easy adjustments of the mouth opening from the rear without having to remove the cap and blade.
