Offering all richness and complexity that has made Chardonnay from Russian River Valley famous, this wine displays inviting aromas of lemon custard, creme brulee, vanilla and light caramel, as well as hints of acacia blossom and honeysuckle. On palate, mouthfeel is smooth and appealing with great mid-palate weight and seamless acid from start to finish. With half the crop fermented in French oak (50% new) with 9 months lees aging, it has a taut, reserved, but very focused bouquet that displays judicious use of new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp entry and good acidity and shows subtle green apple, lime flower and hazelnut notes towards the composed finish. An intensely fragrant, elegant expression of the varietal, with powerful, classic Carneros aromas of blackberry and spice offset by notes of toast and vanilla, full on the palate, with superb balance of lushness and acidity set in a structure marked by supple tannins and a silky texture. The lots of grapes are culled from each vineyard and the majority cold soaked for two to three days to extract maximum flavor with minimum tannin.
