The second of three volumes dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, this four-disc set mostly features English music led by mostly non-English conductors. One disc has John Pritchard, the lone English conductor, directing Britten's Serenade for tenor, horn, and strings and Violin Concerto with tenor Ian Partridge, hornist Nicolas Busch, and violinist Rodney Friend. Another has Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink leading Elgar's Introduction and Allegro for strings and Enigma Variations, as well as Britten's Our Hunting Fathers with soprano Heather Harper.
