Whether you prefer exploring your local trail networks on your mountain bike, or drag racing around a cyclocross track, there are going to be times when you have to walk. And if you've ever busted your backside trying to walk sections in glorified ballerina slippers, you know exactly how frustrating it is. The fine folks at Pearl Izumi have obviously been there, which is why the X Project 2. 0 Women's Shoes have a whole heaping of features that make them functional when it comes time to beat feet. But these are no lame hiking boots -- the carbon fiber soles mean you get race-ready power transfer when you get on the gas. You wouldn't expect a typical carbon-soled shoe to be anything other than agonizing to walk in, but then again, the X Projects aren't exactly average. True, they have a full length, unidirectional carbon fiber sole, which translates all of your watts into forward motion. But the rubber-capped, co-molded TPU lugs provide tons of grip on rocks and roots, saving you from the ice skate effect that most race shoes get when you start hoofing it. The EVA foam heel pad is borrowed from Pearl's running line, enhancing hiking comfort. The remainder of the shoe is standard Pearl race shoe fare. The buckle closure keeps your heel locked down, and two hook-and-loop closures let you fine tune your fit. The toe box is seamless, which eliminates hot spots and chafing. Storm your local trails, or head out to the 'cross races, these puppies will back you up every step, and pedal stroke, of the way. The Pearl Izumi X Project 2. 0 Women's Shoes are available in whole and half sizes from 36 to 43 and in the colors Black/black and Pink/dazzling blue.
