Olympus FL 600R Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus

The Olympus FL 600R Shoe Mount Flash is an external flash with wireless control capabilities that is designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras. This user-friendly flash unit has a wide display and boasts an LED light that also functions as an Autofocus illuminator. The flash can tilt 90 degrees upward and 7 degrees downward; it can also do swiveling actions up to 180 degrees in both directions. The Olympus FL 600R flash unit also has the catch-light plate and wide panel built in to itself, which prevents the user from losing them during transport or busy shoots. The dial and arrow keys at the back of the flash unit adjust the settings to give the appropriate flash power needed by the photographer. However, it can also be controlled through the controls on the camera the flash unit is attached to. When using the Olympus FL 600R in wireless mode, it has a built-in master or commander mode, which can remotely fire a set of wireless flashes without firing itself. In addition, this Olympus flash may also be used as a slave unit controlled by the built-in flash unit in the camera or through another commander flash unit. This FL600R flash unit from Olympus can control a maximum of three groups of flash units and a snap-on flash like the FL-LM2. These flashes may be set independently then slaved to the FL 600R to achieve some stunning photos for a flash photography shoot. Other than being a wireless flash, the Olympus FL 600R can also be mounted on a camera through a hot shoe mount or externally through the use of compatible cables and flash brackets, like the FL-BKP02, FL-BK01, FL-BK04, or FL-BKM03. The FL-600R by Olympus uses a NiMH battery or four AA (R6) alkaline batteries. It has a firing angle of approximately 30 degrees and an equivalent range of 8 mm with the built-in wide panel. The Olympus FL 600R’s flash modes include FP Manual, RC, FP TTL-Auto, Manual, AUTO, and TTL-AUTO. It measures 2.4 inches wide, 4.1 inches high, and 1.1 inch in depth, and it weighs 255 grams, or 9 oz. It is important to note that the Olympus FL-600R flash unit’s commander mode only works with the Olympus OM-D EM-5 camera. Moreover, the wireless mode is not completely functional with the E-PL2, E-P2, E-PL1, E-P1 Olympus PEN camera models. The flash unit’s wireless function only works in the Manual setting on the flash and not TTL. But mounted directly on these camera models, the flash will provide TTL. For the SP-590UZ, SP-570UZ, SP-565UZ, and SP-560UZ Olympus digital camera models, the FL 600R’s wireless TTL mode is possible since they do not have a hot shoe mount. However, for the FL600R to provide this functionality, the firmware on the SP-560UZ must be updated. The Olympus Camera Updater software provides firmware updates for download and installation. Some accessories are included in the Olympus FL 600R flash unit kit. A flash stand is included for mounting the unit externally and strategically, placing it into a spot that would better illuminate the subject. A soft pouch for that would protect the flash unit during transport and in storage. An instruction manual is also included for easy reference.
