Most of the CDs in the Air Mail Music series focused on a specific country, but with Air Mail Music: Latin America, France's Air Mail label took a broader approach and turned its attention to an entire region. Musically, Latin America is quite vast -- the company had everything from Mexican mariachi to Argentinean tango to Brazilian samba to choose from. Though this disc includes some Mexican folk music, its main focus is the instrumental Indian music of South American countries, including Bolivia, Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Paraguay. You won't find any slick Latin American pop on this CD; a folk-minded approach prevails, and one can safely assume that these are obscure musicians who play for the love of playing -- not because they're professional recording artists.
