Pros Top notch navigation, intuitive controls, great portability.
Cons It can take time to program in a destination.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my RoadMate 700 over a year now, and have used it in many areas of the US. I did take the trouble to set it as instructed initially, and have never had problems with satellite acquisition unless there was a direct obstruction - and the reception is affected by layers of clouds with rain /... Pleased with the unit

3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? 4 Comments
Pros Ease of use, accuracy
Cons Better suction mount for winter, needs a knob to dim the unit at night.
Recommended it? Yes

I used this unit on a trip this summer from the East Coast to the West Coast across Canada. I found it easy to use and very helpful. Cruising on the open highway is easy, even just using maps, but the 700 would really shine when I got into a city where I had no idea about the streets etc. I could... Read full review »

Pros Never have to argue with the wife again about getting somewhere!
Cons Expensive, people will break into your car if it's sitting out.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this a year ago and have been pleasantly surprised of how convenient this is. This is so easy to use. My mom watched the kids while my wife and I went on a cruse and she was able to get around Tampa with the unit very well. The Garmin would of scared her and she would have stayed in the... Pros Well designed and easy to use - Nice interface and features.
Cons Pricey, Voice prompts could be louder.

Just took a 1400 miles trip using the Roadmate 700 and it performed flawlessly. Extremely intuitive and easy to use, the new version (3.44) available at Magellan's site offers new features like speedometer, split screen 3-D and Map views and that ability to show icons on the map designating Points... Pros Nice display, lots of room for stored locations
Cons Product reliability, customer service.
Recommended it? Yes

The first unit I bought died after 1 hour of use; so I had to buy a new unit, send in the bad one (pay for freight again)and wait for a credit. The second unit worked fine for a month and a half and suddenly decided to loose all stored location and develop a positional latency of about 5 seconds. I... Read full review »

I bought the unit in March right before my trip to Washington DC and took it with to find way around in rental car. The unit got me lost many times, I thought it was me. When I got back to TX it got me lost more. I checked it with some places that it listed in the POS that have been gone for 3... Read full review »

Pros Back lighted controls, fast reroute
Cons Hard to mount on suction cup holder after removal
Recommended it? No

I received my unit this afternoon and I'm sending it back tomorrow morning. I have a street pilot deluxe and with the problem of limited storage, it will run circles around the roadmate 700. It takes the 700 five to eight minutes to acquire satellites. After initial power up, I drove into my local... Read full review »

Pros User friendly Good concepts
Cons Lousy post sales support

I just tried to upgrade my 700 to Version 5. First, you have to pay $99 for the upgrade. The ordering website is designed so you order entry functions are several screens pages in front of finding out it only comes in DVD format. So make sure you have access to a DVD on your PC. Mine did not have... Read full review »

Pros works reasonably well when not broken
Cons power problem (switch fixed), now freezes when entering the street name of a new address
Recommended it? No

Customer support is terrible. I can't get anyone who speaks English. I have a problem that the unit freezes when I try to enter the name of a new street. The only way to get out is to disconnect it from the power and reboot the unit. The CSR I spoke to asked me to take off the antenna and replace... Read full review »

Pros Worked for 1 day
Cons Bad service support for Magellan RoadMate
Recommended it? No

Do not trust Magellan Customer support, they do not have data access and do not care about Magellan reputation.
I used Magellan RoadMate 700 for one day before smoke came out of the unit and it stopped working. Factory no longer has RoadMate 700 in stock for replacements, and technician... Read full review »
