Top Keurig Coffee Making Products
Keurig is a company that makes coffee makers that make one cup of coffee at a time. Whiel this isn't useful for big gatherings, it is great for those of us who don't drink a lot of coffee, but who do enjoy having a single cup. I bought my husband a Keurig Special Edition Coffee Brewer last summer for his birthday and we have both enjoyed having it. Here is a bit about that coffee maker and some products that you can buy that work with it.
I purchased this machine for my husband as a birthday gift, but I use it all the time as well. I timed my purchase for when Target was offering 20% off, which made the cost more reasonable - but it was still pretty high. Keurig does make machines that are smaller and less fancy, but this is the one that my husband wanted, so that is what he got!
Making coffee with this machine is very easy. There's a container for water (you can see it on the left hand side of this photograph); enough water must be in that container. The machine must be plugged in. And you must have a K-Cup (or My K-Cup Filter), a small cup filled with coffee grounds that you place into the top of the machine.
After the K-Cup has been placed, be sure that the display reads "ready to brew." Then simply press one of the three buttons that have cup displays on them; the smallest one produces 5.25 ounces of coffee, the medium produces 7.25 ounces, and the largest produces 9.25 ounces. Be sure your cup is sitting right underneath the K-Cup when you press the button; it really only takes a second or two for the coffee to begin to appear.
This machine makes great coffe, and it does it so efficiently! I love having it make the perfect amount for just one cup, as that is all I ever want at a time. My husband uses it for his one cup of caffeinated coffee every morning and he loves it as well. This machine is a huge hit at our house.
Making coffee from grounds or beans with a Keurig machine requires the use of a special filter. I bought the Keurig My K-Cup Filter from Amazon.com for fifteen dollars, but I've also seen it on the shelves at Target.
This is a reusable filter made of metal mesh surrounded by plastic. It fits into the Keurig machine where you would otherwise place a K-Cup. It is bigger than the K-Cups, though, because you take out the whole part of the Keurig machine that the K-Cups go into (not as scary as it sounds!).
It is really easy to use this device. Simply fill it with 2 Tablespoons of coarse-ground coffee and then put it into the Keurig (rather than a K-Cup). Then run the machine. It makes a great cup of coffee, fast. It also removes the waste factor involved with K-Cups.
K-Cups are the reason I find using the Keurig so fun. These items produce single servings of coffee, tea, and even hot chocolate. They come in a huge variety, and that makes it easy to explore new hot beverage possibilities without committing to drinking more than a few cups of each one.
Our Keurig came with a variety pack of 12 K-Cups, and I know you can purchase variety packs from different manufacturers. I enjoy buying sleeves of 5 K-Cups; I have enough to try and to share, but if I don't like it, I can move on to something else. The packs of 5 usually cost between $2.95 and $3.50, so even if they aren't the cheapest cups of coffee you'll ever have, they aren't prohibitively expensive, either.
The downside to K-Cups is that the packaging is wasteful and it isn't reusable or recyclable. If they were able to change that, I think K-Cups would be perfect.
If you have room on your counter, Keurig's K-Cups Carousel is a nice way to store and display up to 27 K-Cups. Keurig also offers a "Tower" that stores up to 30 K-Cups, but I prefer the look of the Carousel.
While I haven't purchased one of these myself, I've used one at my husband's place of business. K-Cups look nice in it and slide easily ina nd out of the silver loops that store them. The Carousel also spins easily so that you can find the K-Cup you want without too much trouble.
This isn't a must-have product, but it does oranize K-Cups and it makes a professional looking display piece for your countertop. This would be a great gift for a coffee lover, and it can easily be used at home or in a professional setting.
