A Guide To Finding The Right Men's Sandal

Buying a Men’s sandal online requires a little prior understanding of the construction quality among various types than can be found.  Get the job done right the first time with this helpful guide!

Many of my neighbors and relatives know that I prefer to be outdoors.  Fresh air and those cool summer breezes make working outside a rewarding experience for me.  As my spring vacation to Key West, Florida rapidly approaches, I found myself online shopping for a pair of sandals that would help me take long hikes across the tropical island.  In this guide, you will learn how to spot a good pair of men’s sandals and find several recommendations to make your buying experience a little easier.

Read On To Find Out How To Buy A Pair Of Sandals!

One of the most important survival tools for me has to be a good pair of sandals.  Walking across a bare lawn is a risky business in Southwest Louisiana because of the crawfish, fire ants and ground wasps just waiting to bite your toes off.  With age, I got a little wiser and began wearing cheap sandals.  Sandals can be strapped on your feet in a manner of seconds and taken off even faster.  They are so simple to use and keep those pesky critters off your toes.

Today there is a wide variety of quality built sandals that both protect your feet and offer ankle support to assist in heavy lifting activities.  The following buying tips focus on the key features and options that you should look out for when buying a new pair of sandals online.

Leather Vs Nylon Or Cloth Sandals

First and most important in our discussion is to cover the advantages of a leather vs nylon sandal.  Nylon or cloth based straps on sandals tend to chaff or rub on your bare skin while walking.  The stitching can also begin to come lose which will tend to poke your skin in random places while travelling.  Leather is supple in nature and can prevent blisters on your feet or toes.  Since I wear out the sole material of my sandals long before the leather straps go, the long-term strength is not an issue for men’s sandals.

Ankle Strap

One of the reasons, I prefer the ankle strap vs the traditional thong strap design is mainly because of the annoying flip-flop sound that they make while walking.  The ankle strap based sandal solves this problem by securing your ankle to the sole and give a small measure of support.

Velcro Binding

A common feature in sandals are Velcro binding straps to secure the sandal to the width of your foot.  When playing on the beach or in mud, the Velcro can trap the particles inside and render the tightening strap useless.

Shoe Lace Binding

Some men’s outdoor sandals use laces to help keep an even, yet widely distributed, amount of pressure on the surface of the foot while walking.  Laces however will break down if exposed to long periods of sun, salt water and other environmental factors associated with poor maintenance.  I recommend looking for laced sandals that use plastic knobs to tighten laces.

Quick Release Buckle Binding

Updated sandals appearing on the market today now feature quick-release buckle binding.  All of my sandals now feature this technology and make no mistake, they are all Teva products.  I can reach down and snap them on with ease.  The buckle is made of thick plastic and has yet to break on me after many miles of hiking and outdoor work.

A Shopping List Of Sandals In Order Preference

The following sandals will give you a sampling of what you will find online today.  Notice the differing construction qualities in relation to what has been discussed about features that you will want to look for in a comfortable men’s sandal.

Reef Men's Stuyak Sandal

The Reef Men's Stuyak Sandal is your basic thong type.  The leather straps and soft sole could offer some measure of comfort but I recommend looking at other types first.

Teva Men's Fossil Canyon Sandal

The Teva Men's Fossil Canyon Sandal offers Velcro binding in an attractive leather design.  The full grained leather upper is water-resistant and the microfiber-covered footbed wicks moisture away from your feed.  Plus it's treated with an anti-bacterial agent to prevent odor. The heel features a Shock Pad for better energy distribution and greater shock-absorbency.  I would not buy this however due to the Velcro which can collect sand and lose its grip.

Teva Men's Toachi 2 Outdoor Performance Sandal

The Teva Men's Toachi 2 Outdoor Performance Sandal offers plenty of comfort on the trail and in wet or dry conditions.  The sandal features three points of adjustability on the upper's straps to provide the perfect fit, while built-in drainage ports help deliver a dry, secure stride.  The cloth construction does offer some concern for long term comfort but it comes at a good price compared to its leather counterparts.

Skechers Men's Journeyman Safari Sandal

I am very impressed with the Skechers Men's Journeyman Safari Sandal.  The rugged sandal has a nubuck, canvas, and mesh upper with contrast stitching, bungee ghillie style lace up closure, and a round rubber capped toe. It also features a breathable fabric lining, a faux suede-lined cushioned footbed, and a multi-directional rubber tread on the outsole for premium footing on multiple surfaces.

Teva Men's Omnium Leather Sandal

The Teva Men's Omnium Leather Sandal is my favorite sandal.  The Omnium features leather construction with a quick-snap release and on the mid sole, a shoe lace binding to reach that optimum amount of comfort.   The waterproof full grain leather has survived repeated attacks from my dogs, mud and even long walks across gravel roads.  If you are looking for a men’s sandal that can survive a torture test then I highly recommend these.

Conclusion

I like the Quick-Release buckle design in my Teva sandals and hope you will too.  Online, these sandals are sold at a drastically reduced price that should make any smart shopper take notice.  Remember, sandals are fashionable now and can offer you comfort on the beach or at home.
