Cheap PDAs To Help Get You Organized

A great PDA can make it easier to get work and household tasks done.  Here's a look at a few of the best cheap PDAs out there.

To really get organized, you need to keep track of what you need to do, where you need to go, and who you need to contact.  For many people, a PDA is a simple, elegant solution that's far better than carrying around a day planner or notebook.  Many have recording abilities and near-endless memory.  They've got dozens of professional applications, but they're useful--and fun--to keep around the house.  The only problem with PDAs has been their high price tag, but these days, it's easy to find a great PDA for cheap.  Here's a look at a few of the best cheap PDAs on the market.

The Palm m500 is a very simple PDA and it doesn't care who knows it.  It doesn’t have a color screen, and it doesn’t have a back light.  However, it’s got all the essentials.  It’s a solid, ruggedly designed PDA that syncs with your computer via USB or parallel port.  It has silent alarms and a built in SD slot to expand its short 8MB memory.  If you’re looking for a really simple, easy to use PDA without all the bells and whistles, the m500 is a classic and a great first stop.  It’s also one of the cheapest PDAs on the market at under $70.  However, it doesn’t have the processing capacity for anything other than basic uses.

The m515 handheld is a step up from the m500, and although it lacks the sheer simplicity of that earlier model, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  The m515 boasts an MMC slot and an SD slot, which allow for expansion to its 16mb memory.  It’s also in color and has a backlit display.  Documents on the m515 can be exported in a number of easily readable formats including Word and Powerpoint format.  The m515 is a great organization tool and an absolute steal.  It’s also very light, which makes it a plus for business people on the go.

Hewlett Packard's iPAQ series provides a remarkable amount of processing power in a PDA.  The h5550 has some very advanced capabilities thanks to its 400MHz Intel XScale processor.  It's also got some very modern features that make it a formidable choice for anyone who needs a whole lot of organizational tools in a small package. Bluetooth and USB capabilities make it easy to connect to your computer and other devices or to dial your phone directly from the iPAQ's layout.  Another incredible value, although there have been some reports of technical issues with this iPAQ.  Keep the warranty card handy.

The Tungsten E looks sleek, shiny and beautiful, and it's got Palm design and some great capabilities to back up its great looks.  The Tungsten E has expandable memory via SD or MMC, it connects using USB or infrared, and it weighs a mere 4.6 ounces.  A great PDA to order for a large office, as it combines the best of both worlds.  It's powerful and an extremely great value for such a good organizational tool.

Of course, you should think about which features you need before ordering your new PDA, and look into things like battery life.  Don't be surprised when your PDA becomes your biggest organization helper and be prepared to handle a lot more work.
