Marvel Universe Mighty Muggs Wave 2
Wave 1 of Marvel Universe Mighty Muggs turned a lot of heads so how do you follow up success? Why, by releasing Wave 2 with more popular Marvel Comics characters. So far the good guys outnumber the bad guys by a ratio of 3:1.
Captain America
No collection is complete without Captain America. The Star-Spangled Avenger is the embodiment of the American Dream come to life. I really love this depiction of Captain America, though the only thing I question is the use of dark blue for his outfit rather than a lighter one. Granted the darker shade stands out more and adds more contrast but it doesn't give him that sunny disposition. His face is done well especially with the square-jawed look. The wings on his mask are painted on the sides of his head but I guess it's better than nothing. And, of course, what is Cap without his shield? This is actually an accessory that is unattached to his hand.
Dr. Doom
The monarch of Latveria makes his presence known. Dr. Doom is a thorn in the Fantastic Four's side, especially Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), but he has had tussles with everyone in the Marvel Universe. His armoured face hits all the right notes. If this wasn't successful at all, this figure would have been an epic fail. It's all about his grim visage. His beady eyes look menacing behind his already feared mask. His hooded cowl is actually painted on his head giving that illusion that there is a separate piece. His cape, however, is removable but it does fall off if it isn't proper affixed on him. I love the earth tone green used on him. It's a good contrast against his metallic armour. Beware of Doom!
Hulk
The Hulk is one of the strongest beings ever but this figure looks moe like he escaped the world of Mr. Men. It isn't a bad looking figure but it looks more comical than anything else. I guess that fits nicely with the Mighty Muggs line since it is supposed to be an exaggeration of the actual characters. With that said, There's nothing too complicated about the Hulk with his green skin and torn purple pants. It think more than anything else it's the face that doesn't work for me. I think his eyes could have more expression rather than two dots.
Thing
The Thing is one-quarter of the Fantastic Four team. While he is similar to the Hulk in simplicity, don't be too fooled by that at all. The detail comes with the rocky formation drawn all over his face, body, arms and legs. It's done very nicely and gives that illusion. His brow conveys a good stern look and his eyes really add the necessary expression to his face, something that the Hulk needed. I like how the Thing turned out in the end and makes for an imposing figure.
