Marvel Universe Mighty Muggs Wave 1

Mighty Muggs is a curious collection of known characters depicted in a cartoonish yet deformed way. One of the more popular assortments resides in the Star Wars Universe with the next largest competing line showcasing those from the Marvel Universe. It's not hard to see why these Marvel characters are favourites as seen with Wave 1 of this series.

Iron Man

In order to gain attention to this Mighty Muggs series, Marvel started throwing out familiar characters in order to garner interest. I call this first wave the movie star collection considering who gets the calling.

Iron Man is shown in his classic armour. When I say "classic armour," it is the most familiar Classic Red and Gold one. This is a simple rendition of the character but it's a case of where less is more. I remember drawing this version as a kid and now it looks like my rudimentary illustration came to life. I appreciate that Iron Man is coloured in yellow and not gold, as it seems to be more popular of late. His eye sockets are black adding both mystery and contrast to the figure.

Spider-Man

He's your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man and he looks amazing. It would be too easy to make render him so completely complicated or too simple. Luckily there is a great balance with this design and I love it. His eyes are nice and big giving him a nice, kid-friendly appearance. The webs on his costume are reduced to the minimum, which suits this design quite nicely. I love that the blue used in this outfit is a lighter blue instead of the popular darker shade. This is how I always picture Spider-Man and it works to his advantage.

Venom

What a glorious figure! Venom looks extremely awesome in this style. From the paint application to the white spider logos, I love how every element comes together. The most impressive part his his face. The details in his eyes and mouth help sell this character. But it's his Gene Simmons tongue that really put the stamp on this character and makes this figure go from an "A" to an "A+" in my eyes. Not surprising, this is one of the most sought-after character and really hard to find.

Wolverine

I think out of the four characters in this wave, Wolverine is my least favourite of the bunch. He is dressed in his classic yellow and blue outfit. His claws are present and attached the his hands. He even has stumble on his face and hair on his arms. Great depiction of small details. I think his mask bugs me the most because the black areas are just painted on. I think I need to see the mask flare out to complete the look but this isn't the case. I think Mighty Mggs was experimenting how to create his look so I can forgive them for this first try.

Final Note

I never gave this collection much thought but keep seeing them around. Eventually curiosity got the better of me but too late as it became harder to find these figures. But Marvel Universe Mighty Muggs Wave 1 proves the popularity of these characters no matter what form they assume.
