Popular Women's Fragrances - Fresh Notes
Fragrances can be categorized many different ways. One of the popular ways to classify fragrances is by dividing them into four major categories. These categories include Floral, Oriental, Fresh and Woody notes. Within each of these categories are a set of sub-categories. Some fragrances fall into more than one category and are sometimes difficult to pigeon hole. However, this system works for the majority of fragrances.
Just because you may like a fragrance in one category doesn't mean you will like others. However, most people tend to gravitate towards one category or another, with exceptions. I tend to like fresh notes for men, but florals and orientals on women. But I often find fragrances outside my "comfort zone" that demonstrate that no hard rule ever really applies. This guide examines Fresh Notes for women, which can be sub-categorized as Citrus, Water and Green notes. The guide provides examples of popular selections within this category and each of the sub-categories. If you find one that you like within the list, there is a decent chance you will enjoy some of the others.
DKNY Be Delicious
Be Delicious was released in 2004 by designer Donna Karan. The top notes are grapefruit, cucumber and magnolia. The middle notes include apple, tuberose, rose, violet and white muguet. The fragrance is anchored by white amber and woods. It is a bright refreshing citrus with a nice apple quality.
Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden
Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden is a Fresh Green fragrance released in 1999. The fragrance has top notes of lemon, orange, rhubarb, bergamot and peppermint. The middle notes are green tea, celery seed, jasmine and carnation. The fragrance finishes with a blend of oakmoss, musk, white amber, caraway and fennel. It is a relatively inexpensive option in the green category.
Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake makes exceptional fresh fragrances. They are slightly more expensive than other high end fragrances, but are worth the money. The fragrance has been around since 1992 and remains popular. It combines top notes of lotus, freesia, cyclamen and rose water. The middle notes are carnations, white lilies and peonies. The fragrance finishes with a nice blend of musk, amberseed, tuberose, osmanthos, sandalwood and cedarwood. A fresh and clean water fragrance.
Eau De Cartier
Eau de Cartier is a unisex fragrance released by Cartier in 2001. The fragrance combines top notes of yuzu and bergamot. It follows with middle notes of leaves, flowers, musk and lavender before transitioning into base notes that include amber patchouli and cedarwood.
Prive Pierre De Lune by Armani
Prive Pierre De Lune by Armani can be found at the high end of the fragrance price scale. The fragrance is another unisex selection that was released in 2004 featuring Fresh Green notes. The fragrance begins with green notes and violet. The middle notes include cassis flowers and iris. The fragrance is built on a foundation of amber.
Sung by Alfred Sung
Another green note inspired fragrance is a classic from Alfred Sung. Simply called Sung, this green inspired fragrance was released in 1986. The top notes include galbanum, peach, bergamot, coriander and green notes. The middle notes are orange blossom, hyacinth, muguet, rose, ylang-ylang, orris and carnation (whew!). The base notes are a combination of cedar, vetiver, sandalwood, moss, amber, vanilla, tolu and musk. A complex fragrance in the green sub-category.
DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom
Be Delicious Fresh Blossom by DKNY is a new-comer that was released in 2009. This youthful fragrance is another citrus fragrance that is unique with qualities similar to Be Delicious. The top notes are grapefruit, cassis and apricot. The middle follow with muguet, rose and jasmine. The fragrance is anchored by a medley of blonde woods and smooth skin accords.
White Tea by Bulgari
White Tea by Bulgari is a green inspired fragrance released in 2003. The first impression is a simple burst of artemisia leaves. The middle of the fragrance includes white tea, albemosk and white pepper. The base notes are a blend of ambergris and musk.
Pucci Acqua 330
Pucci Acqua is a fresh aquatic fragrance is another new-comer released in 2009. It is a combination of top notes that include Violet Leaf, Bitter Orange, and Pink Berry. The middle notes are Aquatic Accord, Egyption Jasmine and Frangipani Flower. The fragrance finishes with Musk, Tonka Bean and Moss. Fresh and vibrant.
Escape by Calvin Klein
Escape by Calvin Klein is close to becoming a classic. The fragrance was first released in 1991. The fresh citrus fragrance has always been one of my favorites. The fragrance combines the essence of chamomile, apple, lichee, ylang-ylang, tagette, coriander, hyacinth, black currant and mandarin. The middle notes are a blend of jasmine, rose, osmanthus, plum, peach, muguet, clove and carnation. The foundation combines musk, sandalwood, tonka and vetiver.
This list of ten fragrances is just a snapshot of the perfumes that can be found in the fresh category for women. I tried to find a mixture of inexpensive and high end fragrances as well as examples from each of the sub-categories. They are not listed in any particular order.
