While earlier models (the M16 and M18)were still in use when Germany entered WWII the M-35 helmet was standard issue. Due to wartime demands in 1942 the M-42 design was put into production. The rolled edge earlier of helmets on the shell was eliminated, creating an unfinished edge along the rim. This edge slightly flared out, along the base of the skirt. The elimination of the rolled edge expedited the manufacturing process and reduced the amount of metal used in each helmet, without sacrificing protection. This top quality reproduction features the proper gray-green finish, adjustable leather lining, and chin strap.

A raised relief pewter replica of two knights jousting on horseback is displayed opposite the handle. Wrapped around the remainder of the black glazed, stoneware body is a decal detailing various helmets throughout German history ranging from early Germanic tribes to the German Order to the Deutsches Reich. Throughout the 1970s and on occasion in the 1980s while home on leave from the military, I would patrol the wide and bountiful aisles of the Ohio Gun Collectors Association show, which was one of the greatest gun shows of the old era. It was a superb source for military items as well as weapons, because so many gun collectors at that time were erstwhile militaria buffs.
