My daughter fights sleep like it is an enemy. The sleepier she gets, the more frenetic she becomes. This book has saved many a bedtime from becoming a complete screaming disaster.

Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book starts with a yawn which is somehow just as contagious as a real yawn, and I guarantee that you and your child will be yawning by the third page. The pace is not at all the usual rather madcap romp that you get with a Seuss book - the endearingly bizarre critters are there, and the wonderful wordplay, but the pace is wonderfully relaxing.

Basically, the yawn spreads until everyone from the Collapsible Frimp (my personal favorite) to the Laguna Babboons are asleep, with periodic updates about how many people and critters are currently asleep. There are even mentions of the "sports" of sleep walking & talking, and snoring concerts (Hey kid, sleep is fun! Hint, hint). It gently leads your child through a very drowsy world until it mentions that when you turn out your light, the number of sleepers will be "Ninety-nine Zillion, Nine Trillion and Three" and ends by saying good night. My little one has usually melted into a limp bundle of cuddle by that point.

This book should be on every toddler's bookshelf. Thank You Dr. Seuss!!!
