Canon PowerShot Digital Elph SD1000 7.1-Megapixel Compact Digital Camera

Pros Size, looks, weight, large screen, fast operation, pleasing photos, price
Cons No manual control over aperture or shutter speed, no optical image stabilization
Recommended it? Yes

Since I have always liked Canon Digital Elph cameras (e.g. 6-Megapixel SD600 and the 7.1-Megapixel SD800 IS), I had to see how good the new Canon SD1000 is. The SD1000 is a 7.1-Megapixel camera that is less expensive than the SD700 IS or SD800 IS. Does lower price warrant worse performance and... Read full review »

Canon PowerShot Digital Elph SD1000: Another Excellent Elph

bynoangels Jun 11, 2008

Pros Excellent picture quality, great price, lots of features, large screen, ultra compact,...
Cons Little bit of lag with flash, could use image stabilization for low-light zoomed pictures
Recommended it? Yes

I have noticed a pattern in the purchasing of electronics in my household. It can only be described by the cliche "when it rains, it pours." My fiance and I will go for periods of several months without making any electronics purchases, only to follow it with an electronics shopping spree. This... Read full review »

Pros Amazing picture quality, small size, durability, fast response time, face detection, and...
Cons No internal memory, and no image stabilization.
Recommended it? Yes

I have been a great lover of cameras and the sport of taking pictures since I was a kid. I have always loved going outside just to find those perfect pictures and still do. Though, in my search for those perfect pictures sometimes the perfect picture doesn't come out so perfect. I have been the... Read full review »

Yet another SD in the family

byAmes100 Dec 16, 2007

Pros Ultra-compact, takes decent shots under most circumstances, easy to use, flexible
Cons Shutter lag in flash mode, sensor has limited dynamic range, fixed aperture lens
Recommended it? Yes

The 7-megapixel SD1000 is the least expensive model in the current generation of Canon's popular ultra-compact Elph (Ixus in Europe) digital cameras. Our family already has two cameras in this model line purchased over the last couple of years (an SD200 and an SD300), and we've been pretty happy... Read full review »

Flawed with no support. Keep looking.

Pros Small, fast, cute as a bug's ear. Good lcd.
Cons Flawed circuitry or lens gears render camera useless. Canon does not honor in warranty.
Recommended it? No

The SD 1000 is a sweet little camera with a less than intuitive interface and fatal flaws in lens synchronization, which Canon refuses to honor in warranty. Don't buy it.

With just over a year with the Canon SD 1000, moderate use and good care, the camera stopped in its tracks. On restart... Read full review »

Pros Small size! Great image quality, speedy response, face detection, optical viewfinder
Cons Lots of red-eye in inside pictures, no optical zoom during videos
Recommended it? Yes

The SD1000 is an ultra compact (3.38 x 2.11 x 0.76 in.) camera with 7.1 Mega Pixels and a 3x optical zoom and Canon's new DIGIC III processor. I purchased this camera am my family's main camera. Pros Fits in shirt pocket. Good battery life.
Cons Prone to lens damage. Not a very durable lens mechanism.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought the SD 1000 because I wanted a small point and shoot with good resolution, and enough versatility to meet various needs when carrying it around.  I got it all in this camera.

The body is literally smaller than a cigarette pack, has no protruding buttons or lens, and it fits neatly... Read full review »

Pros Easy to use, compact, great value.
Cons Battery life

This is my second version of our cannon SD. We had our previous cannon for five years and then decided we wanted another camera. We priced, researched and tested other cameras, but nothing compared to the upgraded Canon Power Shot SD1000. The screen is large enough to see the frame of your shot and... Read full review »

Canon fodder

Pros Cute form factor
Cons Too light for a paperweight
Recommended it? No

DO NOT buy Canon products unless the terms offer a full refund. "My" SD1000 arrived malfunctioning. I could have returned it for another one, but I've played that hand already. After another sample of a bad batch, I end up changing manufacturers while losing weeks of my life. So I promptly... Read full review »

Canon PowerShot SD1000 7.1MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver)

Canon looked to the very first Elph for inspiration when designing the PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph, and came up with a quintessential iteration of the icon: slim, clean-lined and fully flat. Inside, the SD1000 Digital Elph looks only to the future: 7.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom and advanced DIGIC III ensure top-quality images, while focus is fast and sharp and red-eye is automatically corrected. The large and more colorful LCD screen now has a tough, anti-reflective coating that makes it as durable as it is beautiful.
