A great carrier; comfy for parent and baby.
Very cool and comfy
Can be tough for a baby to sleep in
The Bottom Line:
Get this pack - you'll use it for a long time.
This lightweight backpack is absolutely terrific. I did a lot of research and tried on several back carriers before I bought the Deuter I, and am glad that I did. The Deuter fits very comfortably and is very easy to carry. In contrast, the Kelty backpacks I tried place the child too far back and are awkward to maneuver. The Deuter feels much more secure.
The higher priced Deuters offer more storage capacity and some little extras that I just didn't need. The Kid Comfort I has a hood, which is the only extra I really wanted. The storage capacity is fine for me. Usually when we're out, my wife carries everything in another backpack, so the storage it has is usually unused anyway.
The pack is specially designed to keep your back cool by keeping the entire pack away from your body. This is the same design that Deuter uses in its other products. I found it works well.
My son is 2 now and still loves it. He's been riding on it since he was only 7 months old. The only problem we had was on longer hikes when he was very young and needed to nap often. Sleeping is a bit difficult: When he nodded off, his head flopped forward and his nose hit the padded frame. This can be fixed by loosening some of the straps to let the pack lean back more. I also purchased the neck support cushion which seems to help him sleep.
