Rob Cosman visits with master craftsman Alan Peters in his shop in Somerset, England. Alan is respected as one of the greatest craftsman alive and a master of hand tools and methods. Having spent five years apprenticing in the famous Barnsley workshops, Alan is a living link to the original Arts and Crafts movement. During those apprentice years the Barnsley shops produced furniture on a commercial level by hand and without electricity. In this dvd Alan reviews designing furniture, making chairs, drawer construction, cutting dovetails, using shooting boards and other shop tips. Ready to use out of the box, the Cosman Mortise Marking Gauge provides the same sharp blades as the marking gauge along with the flexibility needed to mark tenons from 1/4 - 5/8. To adjust the size of the desired tenon loosen the set screw and adjust the cutter to the desired width and tighten. A generous flat side on the brass head prevents the tool from rolling off of the bench preventing possible damage.

Robs dovetail marker allows you to lay out both the angled face and the squared end cuts of dovetails so you save time and reduce the chance for errors. Made from eastern maple, Rob planes the angles on a shooting board to ensure the gauge is highly accurate. One side has a 1:6 ratio for layouts on softwoods, the other side has a 1:7 ratio for hardwoods. The top of the gauge is wide enough to mark 13/16 material.

Working with renowned blade manufacture IBC, Rob Cosman has re-created every aspect of his most trusted tool, the Dovetail Marking Knife. The handle is made of cast aluminum, with just the right weight and balance to be used right-handed or left-handed, and the rectangular shape ensures proper blade orientation. The IBC blade has a standard bevel and a micro bevel that prevents the blade from wandering, especially on end grain, and the thin blade allows for marking in the tiniest of openings.
