In the past three seasons, he also has coached three Iowa athletes over 180 feet, and not one of these throwers were over 180' in high school! Cappos begins his teaching progression with the basics of the proper grip. He then proceeds with seven different non-throwing drills before introducing nine different drills that incorporate the actual throw.
