Overview
The Apple MacBook Air, $999, is the relatively most affordable MacBook in the selection of Apple's laptops. Since the white $999 white MacBook, with its built in DVD/ CD Rom, is no longer available for us normal folks to purchase (still available for educational institutions), the 11-inch $999 MacBook Air is the next best thing.
The Good
My main reason for loving this laptop is because of its weight and portability. Weighing in at less than 2.68 pound when you bring your AC adapter with you (or 2.38 pounds without), it is lighter than some books!
The backlit keyboard is great! Perfect for when you need to take notes in a dark lecture hall or you need to type in the dark while your significant other is asleep.
How this Compares to an iPad:
I can be old school about certain things. As much as I adore the iPad, I like typing from a physical keyboard. For purposes such as surfing the internet, both devices are comparable. But for the days when I have to crank out papers after papers, using a latop feels a lot more user-friendly to me. Yes, I am aware that you can connect a wireless keyboard to the iPad, but the Apple Air feels like a more integrated system to me in that respect.
The Bad
Two features that can be deal-breakers for some people on the fence about this laptop are its lack of a built in CD/DVD-Rom and its relatively smaller (64GB) hard drive. Personally, 64 GB is enough stoarge for me because I store miscellaneous files I need on the iCloud so this was not a deal breaker for me. If you are an audiophile, please look into storing in iClouds if you are interested in the Air and you have a large music selection.
Features and What They Mean to Me:
64GB flash storage Hard Drive - big enough for my purposes. I store extra files on the iCloud. The storage drive is comparable to the 64 GB iPad.
11.6" LED-backlit widescreen display - big enough for my simple Netflix Mad Men streaming purposes
Feature Processor: Intel Core i5 1.6 GHz - it is fast enough for my typing, internet surfing, show streaming purposes.
Installed Memory: 2 GB (DDR3 SDRAM) - the computer's performance is not sluggish when I have multiple windows open so it is all good in my book

When I first began using this laptop, I had some reservations about its lack of a built-in CD/ DVD Rom. I am was used to a laptop with a built-in CD/DVD Rom! But thinking about my user history, I rarely use the CD/ DVD Rom. I have a separate DVD Rom just in case I need it for any reason though.
I like this laptop because of its user-friendly interface and it is light-weight. Although spending a grand on a laptop is a lot of money in this age of bargain priced PC laptops, I thought this was a good investment in my back's health.
